A literal diamond in the rough. I have to say, in no short terms, that I have been to dozens of wine bars in the Charlotte area. Some are skint on stock and big on service. Some are skint on service but boast a wonderful array of fabulous wines- but Wineshop does both. Where else can you get a full kitchen menu and the option of purchasing well below restaurant mark up wine… The service staff is extremely pleasant, our waitress Nicole was very helpful in helping us find not one but two solid pairings for our Grouper; and when I complemented the food I was surprisingly greeted by the General Manager who was just as excitable and charming as our server. Matt was on the ready beside the sea of gourmet beers and even helped us take a few home at a fraction of the usual cost. Overall I see reviews by common bar flys that badmouth this place because they’d rather eat at Red Lion or some divey Wing place… so go there then and let me have your seat at the Wineshop. And for those of you who think this is expensive, try looking at it’s wineshop competition- I could eat two or three meals here before affording it’s southpark competitors. Seriously, if you want to impress for less, stop going anywhere else…

For dinner I had their take on a southern style shrimp and grits and it was fantastic. I would come back again any time. I have already began recommending it to my friends.
Great Food, Wine, Atmosphere, Service!. I’ve been to The Wine Shop at Rivergate several times and thoroughly enjoy it! It’s perfect for Sunday brunch, a glass of wine after work, or a fun dinner with friends. My husband loves the variety of beer, and I love being able to try new and different wines. Even better…after dining you can visit the retail side of the shop where they have a fantastic selection of wines to purchase by the bottle. The staff is very helpful and more than willing to help you find something that suits your preference and price range. One of South Charlotte’s best kept secrets!
Unique spot – love it. My girlfriend finally got me to join her at this combination wine bar and restaurant. She goes with her girlfriends for happy hour a lot, and I have always resisted because I am more of a beer guy. That was the best part – they must have hundreds of different beers there. My girlfriend is happy because she gets to try different wines, and I could go every day for a year and never get through all the beers. The food was a surprise too – I expected small beautiful food since it is a wine bar, but I got hooked up with a big ribeye steak. She is happy , I get a great meal, life is good. Great waitress too.
Love, Love Love The Wine Shop at RiverGate. I have been dinning at The Wine Shop at RiverGate for over a year. Every visit is a fantastic experience. The food is incredible and the wine selection provides tons of opportunity to try new wines. I love that I can buy an exceptional glass of wine without breaking the bank. Everything I have tried from the kitchen is awesome, the white chicken flatbread pizza is a favorite, but the caprese salad is also fresh and yummy. I would encourage anyone who is in the mood for a casual lunch or dinner to check it out. Service has always been outstanding, they are personable and attentive.
Love it -You have to try it!. We have been going there for over a year. It is a small place and when they are full you can feel the pressure on the kitchen but the food is OUTSTANDING! It is very casual bistro type – I believe they only have a host on the weekends so it is seat yourself and if they are full, you wait. The wine and beer is very reasonable and the food quality is outstanding. They have 2 chefs in the kitchen and everything, even a sandwich, is excellent. I read a review about someone not getting greeted right away; those servers are always great when we are there.
Service here is the biggest hit and miss – been there twice in two weeks and been ignored. Over the weekend, restaurant half full, waited five minutes before I got my own menus. Waitress saw me, apologized and went to get our waiter … He brought water and disappeared. Waited ten mins for him to come back, then we walked down to city tavern. The Wine Shop is a great niche and food is very good, but I can count on being greeted at city tavern, can count on being seated and have my order taken and food on the table reasonably fast – and the outdoor seating is great and so is the food. Bet you a dollar the Wine Shop is out of business in a year at this rate. My wife said we’re not going back as long as we can get a seat ( and menus) somewhere else.
