We Felt Like We Walked The Plank On This One. We found out about this place online, while looking for a place to stop and eat after a long day of traveling. I will say that as far as the concept, decorations, and building itself, the place is awesome. The food….well, not so much. To start with, we sat for 15 minutes before anyone ever approached our table to take our drink orders, or even acknowledge that we were there. Not great service at all. The place was not that busy, and we walked right in without a wait, so there should be no reason for the lack of service.I ordered the combination plate of baby flounder, and popcorn shrimp. I had one tiny piece of flounder that was probably two inches in length, and a handful of shrimp at best. It looked like a child’s plate portion. My husband ordered the full order of calabash shrimp, and his portion was more like a child’s portion as well. We were given a half empty bowl of hushpuppies that were cold, hard, and looked like they had been sitting out for quite a while. In fact, everything from our baked potatoes, to the seafood was all cold, rubbery, and tasted like it had been reheated in a microwave. Honestly, I don’t know if this was an off day for them, but this was one of the worst meals we have had lately. They need to invest as much effort into their service, and food quality as they did into the pirate theme concept, and design. Thankfully, we don’t live close enough to have to experience it again.

Have stopped here many times and never had a bad meal. All seafood is lightly breaded so you taste the food not the breading!

Great spot to eat in a town that doesn’t offer much. Robert, our wonderful waiter, was very attentive and kept the drinks full which was hard with a party of 12. Food was good. I had a salad and was surprised that there was lettuce that wasn’t just iceberg. Overall, I would definitely eat there again.

Will Not Be Returning. Stopped in yesterday afternoon after attending a friend’s wedding. Not much to choose from in Elkin and this was one of the few place’s we hadn’t tried before. I had a seafood plate containing popcorn shrimp, clam strips, oysters, scallops, flounder & crab cake. The scallops, flounder & crab cake were not bad. Oysters were pretty tasteless but the worst part was the popcorn shrimp and clam strips. The entire plate had a bitter taste from old or rancid grease I suspect but it was most evident in the popcorn shrimp and clam strips. My friend ordered a prime rib steak with baked potato and salad. She had no idea it even came with vegetable medley containing squash. She does not eat squash. The steak arrived and she began cutting into it to see if it was cooked medium as she had requested. It was obvious the steak and been cooked medium rare instead of medium. The steak was surrounded by at least an inch of fat on all sides. Once she trimmed the fat away she still was unable to cut the meat into bite size portions because it was so tough and full of fat and gristle. The waitress saw this and offered to take it back and ask for a better cut. When the second steak came out it was no better than the first. Even with 2 other knives brought to the table the steak could not be cut. At this point the waitress brought the owner out. He extended his apologies but said that was the best he had and said he bought the best, etc. He then said this is all I can do and stalked off as another friend at our table was complimenting him on his usually well run establishment. We questioned the waitress because he had not made it clear how he intended to handle the issue and she said he was NOT going to take the inedible steak off the bill. At that point our friend said well we aren’t paying for it. The waitress had to make a third trip to the kitchen and was finally able to get the steak removed. My friend had to pay for her potato, salad and drink and was charged $2 for the squash she had not requested in the first place. The waitress offered to pay for the squash from her own pocket but we insisted that wasn’t necessary and paid for all except the steak. This was the first and our last visit to this restaurant. I know seafood places are usually not the best place to buy steak but that was ridiculous and tempered by the owner’s refusal to remove the item from our bill it went beyond ridiculous. My seafood was edible but I have had much better (not cooked in rancid grease) and much closer to home.Other than the decor and family friendly environment I would not recommend this place to anyone!

Excellent food, service and atmosphere I ordered the yellow fin tuna and my wife ordered the crablegs. Very good, delicious. This is the third time that we’ve eaten here, over the last few years, when we are in the area and the quality remains consistant. Excellent

It was terrible. The empty parking lot was the first red flag but nothing else around so I figured I would give them a try. Extremely large was the second red flag. I ordered the calm chowder and it had no calms in it. Instead they used fake crab meat and it was over salted. The crackers on the side was the best part. I felt like I was on an episode of kitchen nightmares.
