Ok, food. 6/10. Food was edible, but not even Applebee’s quality. I wouldn’t suggest eating there. I did have a good IPC beer. Family dinner? NO.
I visited Aviator for lunch today. We first ordered the sampler plate, which was wonderful. I also ordered the muchachos nachos with chicken. The nachos came out cold. The chips were cold. The dish (pan) the nachos came out on was also cold. I dug through the nachos with my fork and the cheese under the melted cheese was still cold and shredded. The resturant did make a new platter of nachos that were hot all the way through. We ordered cheesecake slices to go. The flavor of the outside of the cheesecake slices made it very obvious the cheesecakes sat out uncovered in the refrigerator. The cheesecakes tasted like smoked BBQ. It was not pleasant at all. I will not be returning to Aviator.
Customer Service Disaster. Made a reservation for 9 adults and 2 children…arrived and did not have 2 high chairs…found a second was broken…asked for replacement …none arrived….asked waitress for saltines…said did not have…other employee brought some….server was unfriendly and was there for gratuity purposes only….argued with guest about order ….. never checked after food delivery .. second order was incorrect …it was eventually recooked properly and taken home as table was finished eating…had to ask on duty manager to remove large party gratuity added to bill without posting or notice….as the server clearly did not deserve….MOD did not seem empathetic to the experience our family had … stated the gift card I gave was invalid….validated on phone with AMEX funds available….must not know how to process a gift card ….I was paying with card and cash….very bad experience from a place that has quality food and beer……up your service levels or loose more customers….!!!!!!
Tuesday Wings Special. I’ve been to the Aviator Smokehouse for lunch a handful of times, but always on Tuesday because that’s when they have their 10 wings for $6 special. So to be fair, I’ve only ever had the wings here, nothing else off the menu, and I’ve never actually drunken a beer here due to it being my lunch break and having to return to work for the rest of the afternoon. But I have had Aviator beer many times at other locations, and I am definitely a fan of their brews!That being said, the service here has always been good. The restaurant itself is a big open space with ample seating, a large bar, and TVs all around showing sports. Perfect atmosphere for a brewpub like this.As for the wings, they are well above average. Smokey, crispy skin, moist meat, with a nice selection of sauces ranging from sweet to really hot. I tried a few of the sauces, but I think I’ve settled on the Crazy, which is the second most spicy (I have yet to try their spiciest sauce, but I’ve heard from someone who did try it that it’s killer). For me, it’s the perfect balance of heat and flavor.I’d love to come here for beer and dinner after work some time, but the problem is that Fuquay is in the opposite direction from where I live. Some day though.
Overhyped and overcooked. Wen I moved to Fuquay everyone talked about needing to go to Aviator. Well, I’m not one of those. They hype up the beer selection, and while fairly diverse is not very good. I can tollerate the hot rod red, but would rather just have tea to be honest. The food is all over the place. I had ribs once, and while flavorful were way overcooked and fell to pieces on my plate and was fairly mushy. My pulled pork and chopped pork were both dry and flavorless. I’ve had Brisket and while very tasty, was again overcooked and dry. The Wings are smoked and has a nice flavor but the rubbery texture was just terrible. The side items are off putting, I’ve yet to have one I liked and that includes the fries. If you like the beer there then you have the option to substitute both sides for a single beer…. but that is if you like the beer.The saving grace for this place are the burgers. I’ve yet to be let down on these, and will probably be the only thing I eat there when I am asked to take someone else there next. The bacon burger (cant recall the exact name) was phenomenal. moist, flavorful, and big.Final note. do not stay for more than 45 min or your hair an clothes will be saturated with smoke. They call it a smokehouse, and yes you take it with you.

Not Worth the Hassle. Last weekend some of my friends and I went to the aviator for dinner and drinks. The food is okay, if you get a burger or bbq. I ordered chili and it was not good at all. The chips that came with the chili were stale and I did not eat it. While the food was tolerable, the service was horrible. We waited 20 minutes after being seated for our waitress to take our order. After we did order our food, the waitress never refilled our drinks and never came back to our table. Someone else brought our food out. Even after all this, I still like the Aviator and I probably would have gone back except… a week later I am still dealing with this trip to dinner. When the waitress brought our checks, everything was on separate receipts and everything seemed fine. We gave her our cards and when she brought our cards back for us to sign, she had ran all of the cards with the wrong tickets. My check should have been 11 dollars, while my friends was 22. We waited for about 15 minutes to get her attention to let her know of the mistake. She took our cards and she told us that she fixed it. Today I was charged 22 dollars on my card, my friend was charged 11 and 22 dollars on her card. I called the restaurant to see if I could get this straightened out and they told me that they couldn’t do anything. I am still trying to speak to a manager, but really after all of this, I think that your time and money are better spent other places.
