I know from some other reviewers they felt the place was not the same or had gone down. I am not a local so cannot compare. What I can say is this was very good Q. I had the chopped pork with potato salad and corn/butter bean mix.The pork was moist and not much fat – very tasty. The beans were seasoned just right for a country boys tastes. The hush puppies were on steroids. They were 2-3 times the size of other places I have been. They were pretty good as wellYou can tell the inside is new or remodeled but still a cool place to get a good meal.

Will not eat here again !. In our times,it is unheard of a buisness to not take a debit or credit card! if food was all that, maybe, but this place was a joke! food was generic.smithfield barbecue or pretty much anywhere is better! i am third generation customer.too bad it ends here.

Flat, tasteless barbeque. Cold greasy fries. Very disappointing place.

Recommend for FRIED CHICKEN, but not BBQ – inexpensive catering option. FABULOUS fried chicken. So-so BBQ. We picked up catered buffet for birthday party of 20 people. The fried chicken was gobbled up immediately, but the BBQ pork was mostly (80%) leftover, which I had never seen before. It’s because it was the Carolina style (shredded, looks like tuna fish, dry) and tasted COMPLETELY unseasoned, relying entirely on hot sauce for flavor. So it was a gigantic pan of smelly meat…and not in a good way. We ended up drowning it in Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce, but it still smelled kind of yucky. The hush puppies were fabulous, the buffet came with a gigantic pan of potato salad and another oversized pan of cole slaw (again, mostly left over due to quantity). The iced tea was great, but the pink lemonade was icky sweet and syrupy. The price was great. $200 for 20 people, totally reasonable. It was hot and ready on time. On their website. there doesn’t appear to be a way to get a catered buffet of just fried chicken. You have to get both chicken and BBQ.. Based on our leftovers, I would have preferred getting twice as much chicken, 50% less pork, 75% less slaw, and twice as many hush puppies in the buffet as a complete package. Would also like some sweet sauce for those who don’t want hot sauce. Overall a success.

I go for the Fried Chicken. I hate BBQ so when I dine here, it is for the very scrumptious fried chicken. The hush puppies and coleslaw are not to missed at well. The atmosphere I don’t care too much for and seating is uncomfortable and you are right on top of other tables. But once I taste that crispy, golden fried chicken and wash it down with ice cold sweet tea, all is forgiven.

Never had good service, food is bland and half of it is either pre made, frozen or canned. This is NOT what NC BBQ is about. Unless you count Smithfield’s chicken & bbq as good you will not like this.

Clyde Cooper’s Barbecue. Real NC barbecue! Hard to compare any barbecue in Raleigh with Cooper’s. Good atmostpher, good people, and fantastic food.
