Delicious. I’m a huge fan of yhe Larry Meets Escazu. It is very similar to the opera cake I grew up eating. Deep, rich chocate ganache blanketing chocolte cake layers seperated by an espresso mousse. One can easoly be shared by two….but why would you. The croissant, and the chocolate- and ham & cheese-filled variants are spectacular as well. The coffee is great too. One of the few places open early on the weekends, it’s a place that great for a read with a nice espresso.

My wife and I stopped into Lucettegrace this weekend and were blown away by the beautiful innovative pastries in this new downtown Raleigh establishment. We went later in the afternoon and were happy to see that a full selection of offerings was still available and still being freshly prepared by the chef himself right through the kitchen window. The tough part was choosing from the diverse selection available but we were both very happy with everything! We shared the fruitcake 2014 which had a great contrast of rich mascarpone alongside fruit and nut pairings- it was superb!!We also shared the Dixie Cannonball and Escazu goats milk chocolate chip cookie. The only way I can describe the Dixie Cannonball is to say that it’s everything biscuits and gravy should be! It’s comprised of a flaky well seasoned biscuit with local cheddar that’s filled with rich and creamy sausage gravy! The gentleman at the counter suggested that we pry the top off and dip it in the gravy. The biscuit to rich gravy ratio was prefect! A full heaping plate of dry biscuits and starchy gravy this certainly was NOT! I highly recommend this savory treat when you want deep rich comfort food but don’t want to feel stuffed all day, you won’t be disappointed! Finally we ended the experience with a brown butter Escazu goat milk chocolate chunk cookie. This cookie is a piece of decadent art unlike any I’ve had before. It’s like my mom and a classically trained pastry chef joined forces to make this amazing cookie. It was crunchy without being dry and caramelized without being burnt, a must have for chocolate chip cookie aficionados.Everything about Lucettegrace pointed to the dedication and passion of the creative chef behind the new space and we look forward to visiting again. And just in case you were wondering, the coffee was spot on too!
