  This Place Has Changed :<((. Dined here approximately eight months ago…….had a nice dining experience and thought the food was very good to excellent. Last night's visit changed our opinion drastically. Must have been a management or chef change since our first visit as we really don't believe they have a clue to Italian cuisine or its preparation. Calamari was bland, unseasoned and poorly prepared. Eggplant parmesan was absolutely horrible….texture, taste and presentation appearance. Spaghetti seemed like it had been simmering in the bottom of a pot for several days, had distinct glue like consistency which was further "enhanced" by very thick "paste like" pasta sauce. Meatballs were only average at best and certainly didn't provide an invitation to come back. Italian bread was NOT served; instead some starchy bread that did nothing to suggest it was accompanying an Italian meal. To alleviate this dilemma, we ordered, at extra cost, their "garlic parmesan" bread…….don't know how they managed to leave out both the garlic and the parmesan, however! Italian light beer and house chianti were very good but we did not chose to even look at the dessert menu as we couldn't wait to leave the establishment. Wife and I then both experienced rather unpleasant indigestion together at 3 am. Never again!!

  Very disappointed to say the least. The food was terrible and way over priced at $27 for bland fish I wish I had gone somewhere else. This is one mistake I will not make again.

  The service, and food were excellent. Our waiter, John, had quite a bit of wit. I will request him when we return.

  Wonderful restaurant. Took my parents a few weeks ago. Great service, with a cozy atmosphere, and of course the food was fantastic. Highly recommend the gnocci and chicken parmesean! Can’t wait to go back.

  Service was a mess!. Nine of us dined at this smartly appointed restaurant the evening of November 2, 2013 at 6 pm and were disappointed at the quality of service as follows: We waited about 20 minutes to be approached for drinks. Once obtained, we were not asked if we needed refills. Two members just ordered sodas but the waiter asked what kind of rum we wanted in them which is insensitive if we were recovering alcoholics. One of the Cokes was flat and mostly water which had to be returned. The lamb was a house special that night. When asked the origin of the lamb before five of us ordered it, the waiter said he didnt know and then when pressed said Mary. Bread was requested for the table and we were told it would be brought only after we ordered. We were supposed to be a party of 10, one person was ill. Without asking anyone, no food orders were taken for about 20-30 minutes as the waiter assumed we were waiting for the 10th person. The restaurant did try to make amends by sending over some appetizers that were quite good. The house special salad included smoked salmon but arrived without it and was returned. When we did finally get it, it was very good. The main dishes were served by one person who made 4 trips with 2 plates each until finally the waiter jumped in to help him leaving most waiting for all to get served before they dug in. Some of us were asked if we wanted coffee and or dessert but not all of us. At the start of the meal, we requested separate checks by couples and one check for our single diner and told no. When the combined $350 check arrived, it necessitated that we ask the waiter break it down into the checks as we requested. It took awhile but he did and got it right. The bills arrived with 20% in gratuities automatically added. Most places add 18% for groups of this size. Due to the poor and unprofessional service, I was unwilling to tip my usual 20% and was told this was their policy. When I declined to follow their policy and endeavored to tip at what I thought was fair, the waiter threatened to call the police. I paid cash without a tip and left.Most of our group agreed the food was good but in most cases unexceptional. Due to our horrible service experience, we will not be returning to Trattoria Antica.

  This restaurant is just bad. There is no other way to describe the service and food. Tonight was our second time there, and it will be our last. We could have overlooked the level of service we received tonight if the food was decent (it was over 10 minutes before our waiter made an appearance at our table once we were seated). However, when two of the three people at a table agree it is the worst Italian meal they have had in at least ten years and the other individual insists her meal is completely overpriced for the quality of the food, then you know you should never give a restaurant your business again. If you do decide to have dinner here, avoid the Penne alla Vodka with shrimp and Seafood fra Diavola at all costs. The sauce on both if these pastas had no flavor whatsoever, while the vodka sauce completely lacked cream standard Italian seasonings and the spicy plum tomato sauce was too soupy with no spice at all. Considering the options in Waxhaw are very limited, we are disappointed that we have one less restaurant in town to frequent.

  Met 2 Waxhaw friends there for dinner tonight. Server was really knowledgeable about the wine and his rec was spot on. We all had the grouper special which was wonderful. Shared dessert, tiramisu was fabulous and so was the canoli. Service could not have been better. I will bring my husband and our Charlotte friends here very soon.
