Nice and intimate setting, very attentive staff, don’t let appearances fool you the food is a higher class than the relaxed atmosphere. We loved it
Taste needs to Manage Expectations. On Saturday, June 30th, my husband and I were excited to try out Taste based on their complimentary review in the News and Observer. We entered Taste around 730pm where a small chalkboard sign outside said to see the bartender to be seated. We waited about 5 minutes to get the bartender’s attention and he said it was about a 15 to 20 minute wait. This is where i have 2 key words for Taste……..Manage Expectations. It was not a 15 to 20 min wait – it was more like 40 min though the table was empty for at least 20 minutes. The first problem I see is that there is no hostess to take your name down, welcome you and set the expectation for your wait. Sure the bartender tells you something but it doesn’t come with any confidence.I have to say that people walk in a bit confused and unsure what to do to get a table. I as the patron actually told quite a few people what to do. I don’t think the bartender was really keeping up with all of the patrons or if they actually cared who was next. Basically everyone has to be honest and know who came in before someone else. I did see someone try to cut others in line. This is a way to end up in an argument with someone who isn’t honest when all you wanted is a nice evening out On a Saturday night. The least Taste could do is have you pull a number out or have you write your name down when you enter if they are not going to hire a hostess. As soon as we sat down 40 plus min later not 15 to 20min as we were told, we placed our order for food and drinks We ordered about 5 tapas and some wine. We waited over 90 min to just get pita bread and cheese. We asked at about the 45 min mark if we could just get the bread. The staff said they would try but no one came back to say, no we can’t. Again- communicate and manage the expectation. I should iterate here that it is 4 dollars for a pita bread that is heated up. That is a bit ridiculous and cheese is 2.50 per one you try and you get 2 small pieces for each cheese you try.At this point we are way after 9pm and we asked if our other items were cooking yet, to which we were told no and we prompted the waiter to cancel our order. He told us we we weren’t the first that evening but that they weren’t prepared for the crowd. I have to say not being prepared for a crowd when you have a great review in the newspaper really shows the inexperience of the owner and management of Taste. It is also not the patron’s problem, it is Taste’s problem. You should have all hands on deck and management apologizing for the wait. You should be managing the expectations and keeping the patrons happy. In the time we sat there, we saw at least 5 groups of 2 to 4 people walk out the door due to the confusion of no hostess and not knowing when they would be seated or patrons got tired of waiting and looking at empty tables where they were not allowed to sit. No manager came out and talked to anyone apologizing for their inexperience. When you leave a restaurant at 9:30 pm and all you had was a little bread, you are left with limited options of places to go in Raleigh. I left with a migraine as that happens to me when I don’t eat and my husband literally doesn’t eat when it reaches past 9 pm.I have to say Taste should go to Bella Monica and Gonza’s to see how independent restaurants can and do an excellent job of managing expectations and keeping the patrons happy. I am in no way tied to these restaurants but I feel both establishments do a great job with keeping the customer happy and managing large crowds. If this is the way Taste plans to continue to treat their patrons and operate, I fear they will be another statistic of a restaurant that doesn’t make it.
HUGE fan of tapas and glad that there is finally a good place in Raleigh. I’m familiar with tapas style as I frequently visit NYC and try a tapas almost every evening. This lives up to some of the best in NYC in quality. Almost every dish was plenty! The wontons had only two but we were extremely happy with the rest! The artisan cheeses were unbelievable! Order the beef sliders and pasta dish with a goat cheese sauce!
Taste Rest, raleigh nc. Really good food, small amounts for people who don’t want to stuff themselves silly, deserts are delicious, martinis spectacular and if you by the martini of the night, it is only $6. The bill was the best. Value for money, amazing. Owneers were very friendly and made you feel at home. It’s an odd place for a restaurant but it works. We will be back!
Didn’t actually eat here. We came for a fancy evening out. The first problem is the place is more casual than I expected (my fault). The real problem was the smell. It smelled rancid when we walked in the door. We thought about eating outside, but ruled it out based on view of parking lot.
Excellent food both in preparation, quality. Must try the chicken empanadas, the filet, and the beef sliders. Good wine selection. Excellent martinis!
Great Neighborhood Restaurant. We have eaten at Taste several times for dinner and once for Sunday brunch. Each time has been a delight. It is child-friendly and inviting. The service is great – everyone so enthusiastic and helpful. We are so happy to have this new treasure of a restaurant in our neighborhood!
