Folks, this is outstanding barbecue. Period. But dont let the name fool ya they claim its Texas-style BBQ, but theres some true Eastern North Carolina love in each and every bite! I know I might take some heat for saying this, but I remember when places like Jacksons Big Oak, the Dixie Pig and Flips BBQ actually served pork barbecue with a classic smoke ring this is real, honest barbecue!Sure, the place isnt much to look at, but as soon as you step in, youre overwhelmed with that classic smoke smell that screams Quality cue! The tea is sweet and so are the servers, who are attentive, but not hovering.Right off the bat, start with a basket of chicharrones ($3.95) perfectly fried blisters of porky goodness seasoned with everything from Old Bay to a chili-lime sprinkle that will have you licking the finger prints off your thumbs. While everyone at our table went straight for the Brisket Sandwich ($9.75), I dove into the Tumbleweed Sandwich, a soft white roll piled high with perfectly succulent brisket, then topped with smoky pulled pork and snappy, Beanie Weenie-shaped discs of spicy sausage. For only $10.95, its probably the biggest, most awesome, pork sandwich Ive sampled in a decade. The token side of cabbage coleslaw was sweet just like Momma used to make, and the pickle spear was nice and firm. You better order the Bacon Mac & Cheese as your side dish just make sure everyone else at the table orders it as well, or they will completely hog your portion of creamy smoked gouda and sharp cheddar cheese blended with cavatapi noodles this one aint your Mommas mac & cheese and youre gonna hate her for it.The side bowl of Pinto Beans ($2,45) are speckled with flecks of brisket and feature a smattering of heat classic Texas style frijoles! The Potato Salad ($2.45) was a solid portion of red potatoes in a creamy dill and mustard sauce. This is the barbecue I will crave during those long winters in Chicago next year I cant wait to come back home to Wilmington and let the smoke surround me again!
