Last Friday evening my husband and I discovered Hieronymus Seafood. Although we’ve been to Wilmington many times we had somehow missed this wonderful establishment that has been serving fresh local seafood since 1972.Our meal was excellent. Our server, Nancy, was friendly, helpful and there when we needed anything. There were so many excellent choices on the menu we had difficulty choosing but I finally opted for their crab cakes which were wonderful–big chunks of crab with just the right seasoning. In fact the seasoning was perfect on all our food. My husband had a fish combo platter so I was able to sample the oysters, flounder, shrimp etc, all of which were very good.We topped off our dinner by sharing a key lime tart that was perfection, tart but not to tart.We will definitely be returning to this restaurant when we are in Wilmington again. There are many restaurants from which to choose but too many seafood places just aren’t all that special. If you like fresh local seafood that is well prepared, check out Hieronymus Seafood.Margaret Richman
Has Been. Loud bar patrons, outdated interior, gravel parking lot. Overpriced fish that is passed off as the catch of the day. What looked like a boiled piece of monk fish was supposed to be swordfish. At $21.00 for a 1 oz slice, with a side of wall paper paste style potatoes, I think not. Server could not remember we were there, or our order. Forgot drinks, biscuits (blah)and gave us blackened instead of grilled as ordered. We were the only table on a Saturday night. Might have been good in the day, not today. Save your money.
Excellent food and superb service! We will definitely be returning!
We went for lunch. We ordered salads. My portion of fish was appropriate for a salad, but the salad itself was the size of a side salad. My boyfriend’s salad was the same, although he ordered a Caesar, which came without croutons. They were out of croutons due to the great crouton famine of 2013. His salad had 5 fried oysters on it. $9.50 for each salad. Our salads came with cheese biscuits, which evidently meant 1 biscuit per person. Being your ration book – maybe you’ll get more for your money.
Favorite in Wilmington!. We’ve been coming here since we moved to NC 16 years ago….our recent dinner was the usual excellent food, service was a bit off (appetizer came out after the entree, my salad came out after that!)….not sure if the kitchen or our waitress was off. The manager comped the appetizer….we’ll be back, as their track record is overall great.
Fantastic place!!!! Great service a ridiculously amazing food!! The grilled wahoo was unbelievable!
Good food, bad service. Ambiance is also lacking. Noisy bar with obnoxious people.
