If you enjoy vinegar-based barbecue, this is the place for you. It is not fancy with styrofoam plates and cups. We have enjoyed Jacksons for many year…

Found it! That place that only the locals know! I knew there had to be a place in Wilmington that served NC authentic BBQ, Jackson's is it! All I will…

First time having Carolina style BBQ so I don’t have anything to compare it too (except Texas BBQ). Leaving that comparison aside the food was pretty good. I had the BBQ pork and ribs and they were both very good. I also tried the fried chicken and it was excellent.
I have been coming to Jackson’s for over 20 years. Lately their prices have skyrocketed , but for good food I don’t mind paying more. Today I ordered a BBQ sand , fries 2 drinks and a fried chicken plate with two cups if ice. I was charged 1.50 for ice , the past month this was .20 a cup. It is crazy that a family meal with 6 pieces of chicken a pound if BBQ 2 pints of vegatables and hush puppies cost 1.00 less than I paid for half the amount of food. The service has gone down hill lately for to go orders and the speed for getting an order that was called in was 22 mins. I miss the Jackson’s I grew up on
Best bbq in town!. This is the best bbq place in town that is not a chain. The interior is simple but inviting. Portions are generous, and the pulled pork is excellent.
I had the hardest time finding a well reviewed BBQ place here in Wiimington. Seems like all the places had some sort of negative vibe from people. But I kept coming back to Jackson’s and looked at the number of votes and the 81% like factor so I went ahead and tried it.I’m no expert I just know what tastes good and what doesn’t and Jackson’s was pretty dang good. I got the rib plate with side of Mac and Cheese and potato salad. The ribs fell off the bones and was very tasty. I was a bit surprised when I turned them over, they did look like they might have been boiled? Adding pic so you decide. They also did not have sauce underneath. I just simply asked for more sauce and our very friendly waiter gave me more. The place looks very old school nothing fancy, but I wasn’t expecting fancy, just wanted good BBQ and I pretty much got it. Both my wife and I did care much for the potato salad, but the hush puppies and some other fried thing were pretty good, although I suspect I’ll have to fast for a few days to burn off all the fat these must contain.
Recommended by locals, this place was a major disappointment. Ribs semed to be boiled and then slathered in sauce. No smoke flavor anywhere. Everything seemed to be cooked in an oven or crockpot… not true BBQ. Where is the legendary Carolina BBQ that I hearof
The worse BBQ I have ever had. I can not imagine anyone giving this a good review. We ordered the ribs, pork, and chicken, they tasted like they were boiled, covered in sauce, then left out for days. The chicken was dry and almost burnt, the pork was dry and bland, and the ribs had no flavor. The only good thing we had was the coleslaw. This is not Carolina BBQ and defiantly not good by any meaning of the word.
Great fried okra
