Not a diner…. The place is loaded with televisions , so I imagine this would be a great place to watch the big game… As for the food, we were unimpressed during a recent lunch outing. The Beef on Weck sandwich probably had less than three ounces of ice cold shaved roast beef on it, hidden inside a massive Weck-wanna be hard roll that was a day shy of stale. For nearly $9, I was disappointed enough to even mention the lack of meat to our server. She just shrugged. My friend had a Greek pizza, cooked on pita bread (?) that came out with veggies not listed on the description. We saw a Reuben sandwich go by that looked pretty decent. For the money, I think I’ll stick with Chops downtown or the nearby College Road Deli.
From the outside it looks like a diner but when you get inside you realize it is not. There are TVs everywhere, unique tables made out of trees, and a beer list the size of a novel. The food was really good, I got a Cuban sandwich and it was very tasty. With the great food and huge beer selection I will be back at Jax many more times.I also enjoy the beer list challenge. The beer list is about 130 beers long. If you drink 100 different beers they make a pint glass with your name on it. I am currently 35 beers down…65 to go
Very good food for anyone. My wife and I recently began eating at Jax’s deli and it is absolutely as good as everyone else says it is. We stick to a mostly organic diet but occasionally go out to eat at a local restaurant. Everywhere we eat forces us to be extremely choosy because the food always gives us headaches or other pains. The processed or badly cooked food is what does us in every time and we end up experiencing hangover like pains.Every meal we have had at Jax has not caused this problem. Ever. We have had the pizza’s, sandwiches, subs and our favorite, the BLT with gouda cheese! Apart from this the food is as good as any restaurant in town and better than most. Carabba’s is decent tasting, expensive and also processed so we stopped eating there. Bone Fish is very expensive, mostly processed ingredients, decent tasting, too but, with the same after effects such as headaches and digestive issues.If you are looking for a place to eat that will not adversely effect your health you will not find another restaurant in town that can offer a better choice than Jax.
Awesome Bar. Great ambiance. Clean bar & kitchen and beautiful wood counters. Fig & Gorgonzola pizza is delicious. Pastrami sandwich fills you up in a very good way. Stacy keeps your glass full and the laughs coming. Favorite new neighborhood hangout.

I just recently discovered my new local hang out . I went there with my husband on Tuesday to see what Jax was all about. It looks like a diner, but the sign says Delu and Alehouse. Well , it’s NO diner for sure. When you walk in your greeted with A beautiful bar. I found out its made from recovered wood from the Cape Fear river.I ordered the Legend which is a Italian style sub. It was delicious! My husband had the NY pastrami sandwich. It was packed with pastrami like in NY and we definitely could have shared it! They have over 100 beers to choose from. My husband ordered a Dead Guy Ale and I stuck with my usual Vodka and cranberry. The staff was very pleasant and knowledgable. We ended our night with a s’mores pizza for two. What a great way to the end the night!! We will definitely be coming back but will bring our friends next time!!
