Bikini shrimp is delicious …. The chips and salsa are perfect…. Just the right amount of spicy …..good selection of draft Mexican beer always a must with chips.
Nice atmosphere, inconsistent service. I keep wanting to love this place– the atmosphere is fun (though the benches at the booths are uncomfortably shallow) and the salsa is fresh. Unfortunately, I have found the service to be inconsistent and sometimes just poor. A great restaurant is a place that is consistent– this place isn’t. Some of the servers are very competent, but others are bored, rude or just not very good. In addition, I’ve had a couple of experiences where I felt that my patronage was not particularly valued. Once, we called to order take out and were told that they were too busy to accept any outside orders. I have NEVER had that happen before and I’m shocked that a place can be so confident that it can turn people away. More often, we just feel like some of the servers are fine but others are not well-trained or particularly friendly. Recently, we planned a special event there and invited a group of our closest friends to join us. The wait time was ridiculous and the whole episode clearly resulted from their lack of organization. They said ‘sorry’ a few times, but only because I was obviously upset. I left angry that we had spent so much time organizing the event, invited a large group of our friends– who would not have been there otherwise– to spend money on drinks and food and felt ultimately that we were not treated well. We will never invite a group to join us there again and I would not recommend anyone go with more than four people unless you want to feel frustrated and leave annoyed.

Disappointing. After reading so many glowing reviews online, we decided to give K-38 a try. Maybe our server was having a personal crisis in the back but our lunch service was the slowest I’ve experienced — our appetizer took almost 30 mins to come out and our waitress only checked on us when we flagged down other servers and specifically asked for something. The food was fine — not much flavor — but everything seemed fresh. I definitely won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend this place.
Tried again, now it’s Great!. UPDATE: 2013. SERVICE GREAT FOOD GREAT, AMBIANCE GREAT! Previously it was annoying to deal with slack service, forgotten orders (USE A PENCIL AND PAPER FOOLS IT’S PART OF THE JOB! DUH) and now it’s much much better! Try again, you’ll be glad you did!
