Damn fine meat!. Old Cape Fear Smoked Meats is the only place you need to go if you’re looking for good barbecue in Wilmington. We went for the first time today based on an Instagram picture of their ribs, and it was smoky pork perfection. We got a rib platter and the pulled pork platter. The ribs were the best I’ve ever had in my life, so good I would have licked the bone if I wasn’t on restaurant behavior. The pulled pork was just delicious, so tender, pulled (not shredded) to order, just exactly perfect. As for the sides, you haven’t eaten a hush puppy until you try theirs. Golden crusty outside, fluffy inside, and well seasoned batter. The coleslaw is that coleslaw you’re always searching for- fresh, crunchy, not too too wet. Boiled potatoes and green beans? Freaking perfect. This place is relatively new to Wilmington having just opened in February, and I’m shocked that today was the first I had heard about it. Their menu is not extensive, but everything is made with such attention to detail and so perfectly that it really elevates the traditional barbecue plate. We were planning our next visit before we left. The moral of the story is, yes, you should go there.
