Disgusted. I have been going to plaza mariachi for almost 4 years now and after last night I will never return. I ordered something different than my usually and I wish I hadn’t. There was a CHIKEN BONE IN MY CHEESE QUESADILLA. Not only was that horrific enough but the waitress was smiling and laughing about it because she barely understood english. The manger came over and didn’t even apologize but rather offered me something else to eat AFTER trying to explain to me why there was a chicken bone in my not chicken quesadilla. He was confused because he thought it was a chicken quesadilla. NOPE. I politely declined because I was utterly grossed out. We get the bill… THEY CHARGED US FOR MY MEAL which I ate less than half off. When my boyfriend asked the manager to take it off he asked for ANOTHER explanation and avoided eye contact the whole time while deducting the charge. He didn’t even take the entire meal off he charged us for half of it. And as a top of all of this the margarita that was brought to our table had zero alcohol in it. Needless to say I will NEVER be going back to plaza.
Usually I get El Cerro’s for some cheaper Mexican, but we decided to try Plaza Mariachi to see what all the hype was about… and we were not disappointed! We were seated immediately in a very clean booth, soon followed by chips and salsa that never went empty. Our waters were always full and the food came out within five minutes of ordering. Other restaurants should come here to learn how ro serve! Overall amazing experience for the price!
I go at least once a week, I’ve worked in food service for a long time, an compared to Everyone else this is the cleanest place an so what The Food Comes out fast, ain’t that why ur there ..to eat? The manager an staff have always been kind an assertive, an I’ve been waited on by all of them, this is the only place I where I feel like I’m in authentic Mex kitchen!
Better than El Cerro. We went to Plaza Mariachi one night for dinner after finding El Cerro Grande packed with obnoxious teenagers (someone’s birthday?) and missing staff…Glad we did! The menu appears similar, but the prices are even cheaper and the quality of the food is better! The salsas had more substance and flavor than the watery red sauce other places serve. The mole was really good on my chicken enchilada, and even the obligatory sides of refried beans and rice tasted freshly prepared, enough to be noticeably better than the stuff we have gotten used to from other mexican restaurants. The real standout and the reason we will be back is the service. The staff may have a little language barrier, but they are super nice, smiley, friendly and on the ball—our drinks never went empty, and we never had to wait to get noticed when we needed something. Will choose here over other mexican restaurants in the future.
No Doubt the Best Mexican Restuarant in Wilmington, We love this place!. I came to uncw 2 years ago and my first Mexican experience here in Wilmington was at El Cerro where I found myself very disappointed in the food. I have always loved Mexican food and was a little disappointed that I hadn’t found a Mexican restaurant in the area that I really enjoyed…then I went to Plaza. On my first visit over a year and a half ago I was hooked; the only downside to Plaza at the time was that the wait staff didn’t speak English very well. Now – it’s obvious with time that their English has improved dramatically. Their waitstaff is always so friendly! They have the best chips (that always come out warm) and salsa in town; their cheese dip and bean dip is absolutely delicious. I usually get the chicken chimichanga or the pollo fondito that’s covered in delicious melted cheese.. Yesterday I got the pollo fondito and forgot to ask for beans instead of rice (usually I hate Mexican rice; I find it to be really dry)… but the rice was delicious and super moist, not dry like many Mexican restaurants. I would recommend Plaza Mariachi to anyone!
Best Mexican Food in Wilmington. My husband and I have been going to Plaza Mariachi every Saturday for lunch for 2 years straight. Never have we been disappointed. The beans are unbeatable. I’ve never had a dry piece of rice. The wait staff may not know much English, but they always get my order correct and always refill my glass even if it’s just halfway full. I prefer my food fast. The average wait time between order and the receiving of food is probably 7 minutes. Plus you cannot beat $4.50 for lots of delicious food for lunch. Dinner prices are very reasonable, also. My favorite dish is the fish tacos (not lunch menu). They’re presented traditional taco style and NOT FRIED. I’m so sick of fried fish on a taco. Theirs are seasoned perfectly, fresh, light, and delicious.La Costa doesn’t hold a candle to Plaza.
OVERATED. I don’t know where to start. The salsa is below average unless you like your salsa like tomato soup. The staff, some of them, are friendly, but don’t understand ANY english. The food comes too fast so if you go beware of this. There are worse things than food coming too fast, i realize this. The best mexican food in town is by far La Costa. This place might be somewhat clean but it is brand new so it should be clean. I had an unfortunate incident where the manager refused to honor my free lunch coupon, though it was lunch time and have honored this card in the past, now refuse to do so without any notice. In my opinion that is terrible customer service. Is it better to keep your customer happy and honor the lunch card or is it worth $7.99 to have a customer to leave very unhappy and tell everyone they know about it? I’d personally rather have a happy customer. Plaza Mariachi doesn’t care about its customers and shouldn’t give out these lunch cards if they don’t intend to honor them. Its under new management and this current manager needs some training in that area because he is driving away business and has no problem in doing so.
