LOVE THIS PLACE! I am a college student who has taste good enough to hate Taco Bell, but really appreciates places like Islands Fresh Mex. I got 2 tacos pescados (fish tacos) and guacamole and chips. This cost about 8.00 (a little less, but I tipped because I could tell that it was a great meal). They have toppings for your tacos to the side of the counter, including cilantro, salsas, etc. it’s easy enough to stay, but also easy for take out. They have several large TVs with soccer games, and a solid amount of space. Probably for a little over 40 from what I saw, but they could probably take more in. My food was ready quickly, my chips were warmed. My guac was a bit spicy from some peppers that were in it, but they gave me so much that I didn’t really care! The tacos are double wrapped with corn tortillas and are AWESOME. I’m so excited to go back!
Walked in and didn’t see any cheesy decor so knew this place would be legit. Food was a bit pricey but the portions were huge. I got a torta, which was excellent. The drinks looked awesome as well, would’ve loved to try one if we didn’t have to drive home. My boyfriend got fajitas which were well seasoned and cooked very well. Staff was friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant.
Excellent Salsa. The meat is seasoned wonderfully, and the salsas are all quite spicy yet flavorful. Excellent place.

Tasty tucked away tacos. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food in the Wilmington area, look no further than Taqueria Los Portales. This restaurant is tucked away off S. Kerr, but I’m so glad I stumbled upon it. I absolutely love their tacos, which are simple, but so flavorful and lack all that grease you’ll find at other Mexican restaurants. I’m also a big fan of their ceviche tostada and pepe burrito. I love that they have radishes, cilantro, and onions on their salsa bar in addition to their delicious salsas. Did I mention their prices are super reasonable? Can’t say enough good things about this place. I’ll be returning soon; I’m dying to try their stews and tortas.
By far the best Mexican food in town. I just found it and I have eaten here every day this week. My favorites are of course the carne tacos, pepe burritos, sopes, and beef stew. Can’t beat the salsa/topping bar either, changes every day!
