The Basics is a favorite spot for Sunday brunch or a comfort food dinner during the week. The servers and managers are friendly and prompt and I find the food consistently well prepared. The date night prix fixe menu is a great idea and good deal and it’s available every night. While they offer fancier specials, I’m a big fan of their meatloaf, fried okra, Mac and cheese, collards, steak and eggs, and pancakes (with real maple syrup).
This is my boyfriend and I’s favorite place. We keep going back and trying different things on the menu. Anything with risotto is amazing. The salmon was perfectly and the shrimp and grits was the best we had in a while. It is also a little out of the way so it is way less busy. Front street brewery’s wait was an hour and 45 and The Basics was 15 minutes. I will always come back for more
