Crazy little hole in the wall Peruvian rotisserie with AMAZING food- freshly made and authentic! Several choices for ceviche, chicken and beef entrees made to perfection in spices and sauces I’ve never heard of but are soo zesty! Service was fast and made to order. Cheesy signs that make the place look like a chain but it’s one of a kind. So glad we were adventurous and gave it a try!! Thumbs up. Near UNCW in a shopping mall…

There’s no place like home!. I don’t usually write reviews, but my experience today at The Golden Chicken was so great that I must tell the world! The service was fantastic and the food was just incredible. I left with a full tummy and a happy heart!I probably wouldn’t have ventured in had a friend not suggested having lunch there, but I am so glad that I did. The location is a little questionable, but the restaurant is very clean and is well decorated. I will definitely be going back!

Don’t be put off by the tacky signage in the windows. This place has straight up good food. The rotisserie chicken and canary beans were delicious. The restaurant is not fancy but very clean and seems to be family run. I will definitely be eating there again.

Wonderful food and atmosphere. I have been curious to try The Golden Chicken since it opened to see if it lived up to the Peruvian chicken places I grew up going to in the northern Virginia area. Finally got a chance to check it out for lunch today and it did not disappoint! Immediately brought back memories of the juicy rotisserie chicken I love. Not to mention, $20 for two lunches and drinks! The servers were very attentive and polite. I really can’t wait to go back and try other items on the menu. Don’t let the shoddy shopping center fool you – this is another hidden gem in Wilmington!

Authentic Peruvian food….. The scratching you hear in the background is me crossing off another item from the bucket list I have eaten ceviche! It was a fairly significant discovery to learn we had a Peruvian restaurant in town. I mean, Who Knew? So we tried El Pollo de Oro this evening (The Golden Chicken). My wife enjoyed the lomo saltado, a common mans dish our Inca-phile son had prepared for us previously. Along with fried plantains and a plate of familiar picarones (a donut-shaped pastry made of sweet potatoes), this made for an especially delightful repast. Though hers was the safe bet, I ventured with the lime juice marinated white fish famous of the region. Now, ceviche is a most interesting phenomenon; the fish experiences no heat! Rather, it is soaked in the lime juice and essentially cooked by the acid of that marinade. Raw? Not really. The fish does change in translucence, from the natural to almost the typical white appearance of your average grilled filet. It is just done by this alternate process. At first, it was a stretch to get my mind around the fact I was eating uncooked (read: unheated) seafood. But, then, I latched onto the thought, What is sushi, after all Soon, I found it was not so bad. Actually, it was not the fish that challenged me in the end, but the lime. The meal was infused with the lime, saturated in lime; it became overpowering with such tartness that I soon was overcome. No amount of potato, sweet potato or canary bean side features could compensate. Some relief was found in the diet Inca Kola (again, who know that this famous soft drink came in a diet version?). I retreated into the safety of a delightful slice of tres leches and recovered my equilibrium for the meal.I will return to The Golden Chicken. Next time I will do the Incan-inspired rotisserie chicken. I understand the seasonings make this offering to die for. In the meantime, let this review serve to encourage you, do try this restaurant. Authentic, it surely is. It is not fine dining by ambience and accoutrement. But, to satisfy a yearning, it will surely do.
