Very cozy restaurant with good food and company!
Ok this is a tough one! I do like this place…but…it’s not the best! The food is just ok, however I do like the Dutch style of the tiny cafe. The manager of this place needs to stop being so prissy and get her hands dirty. She just stood around yelling at the servers telling them all that they were doing wrong while she stood there in her fancy outfit with her newly manicured nails and refused to do anything! That behavior was disgusting to watch! I will go back though.
Mostly Good; Very Popular. It seemed to be the only place to eat in Bismarck: jammed at 11am on a Saturday and we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. The place was kept running smoothly by the conscientious staff, though I thought there should have been at least one more person on duty for this many tables. Definitely down-home food here: everything’s pan-fried or deep-fried, and I don’t recall a single vegetable on the menu. Still, those aren’t the things you come for, are they. I had a pattie melt with American fries. The sandwich (on sourdough; you can choose from that, rye, white or wheat) was tasty and filling; the American fries were nothing to get excited about: potatoes slices pan-fried not long enough. I probably would have been happier with their French cousins. My table-mate had hashbrowns with eggs, which I didn’t try. They looked good, though. My only regret is that I didn’t try the caramel roll, something I’ve never seen on a menu before. If anyone tries it, let me know how it is.The place was clean, the atmosphere very casual and friendly. We, being from out of town, were about the only people there who didn’t know anybody else, but that didn’t stop us having a few conversations. Prices were about right, too.
Hashbrowns were dry and over cooked. Bacon was really salty! Eggs were ok. Seemed like only one waitress was working. She really did a good job as full as the place was. Wouldn’t say it was bad, but wouldnt say it was good either.
#1 Breakfast!. They have the best breakfast and customer service! I love this place!!!!!
A real North Dakota experience. We stopped at the Little Cottage Cafe on our way through North Dakota and were so glad we did. It’s adorable. The staff is friendly, and the foot comes out hot, quick, and delicious. Tip for out-of-staters: North Dakotans tend to drink their coffee black/only use powdered creamer, so make sure you ask your server to leave room in your mug for some real cream! We will remember this place as a happy stop along our journey from Virginia to Alaska.
Our meal was a mixed bag. The burgers were good, the hot beef sandwich was ok and the broasted chicken wasn’t very good.
