Three of us arrived at a nearly full restaurant and were promptly seated in the last thee seats. The staff remained friendly and very prompt. We ordered two burgers and a chicken sandwich. All three were tasty and served up with 15 minutes or our arrival. The beer list was excellent. Very well displayed beer list, easy to read, very good choice and description. It is was plain to see why it was full, it’s very good burger and beer joint.
Best burger I’ve had in Grand Forks. Can’t wait to go back.
Excellent Non-Downtown Food & Drinks. Verdict: Superb service; great use of space in a smaller setting; good selection of beer. The quick food preparation complements the quality and taste. 10 chips out of 10.When my friends asked me where I wanted to go for my twenty-first birthday, I immediately answered JL Beers, a restaurant that had recently opened in Grand Forks. However, I ended up spending my birthday in Nashville (not too bad of a substitute), so I wasn’t able to enter this establishment until a week later. I came with my mom on a Friday night at 8 PM… which happened to be the first night of Minnesota Vikings pregame football. The reason I mentioned all these details is that I was surprised at how much open space there was in the restaurant (and how few people on a weekend). According to the menu, the fire code allows the bar to host 47 people, who can be seated at the dining room-wide bar, a couple six-person tables, or a couple four-person tables. The space is used very well, leaving enough room between the tables and the bars for patrons and servers to walk through comfortably. Additionally, the lighting from the bar, televisions, and carefully-selected overheads give this place a suitable dark-but-not-too-dark environment.Where this place succeeded the most was in its service. Our server Jessica greeted us cheerfully, and she was very helpful in beer recommendations and customer service. We got to try some seasonal beers (I really liked the Grand Teton Lost Continent from Idaho) as well as some house specialties (JL Beers Sesseazy). Both drinks came at a very cool temperature and were delicious. More impressively, our visit came during Jessica’s break, and before she left, she made sure she thoroughly explained our situation to the replacement server. This really left an impression on us, since she made sure that our visit stayed enjoyable even after she left. However, the eponymous burgers really stole the show. We received our food minutes after we ordered it, and it was delicious. The buns are toasted and really complement the taste of the burger, cheese, special sauce, and toppings. Furthermore, the side of kettle chips (ordered separately) with dipping sauce were exceptionally good. The chips are fresh cut and seasoned in four different flavors (I recommend the Cajun), making this a unique addition to the meal. Thanks to superb service, great food, and, of course, good drinks, JL Beers provides a great bar experience away from the downtown area of Grand Forks. I will definitely be returning soon, and often.
Great Burgers and Beer. Great burgers done right. Good prices. Definitely not a pretentious place. Lots of great beers on tap.I liked the place some much we had lunch and then came back for dinner.
Excellent Restaurant. I flew up from Oklahoma City to see a friend here in Grand Forks. We stopped in to grab a burger. Folks, this is hands down the best hamburger I have ever tried. Everything was made to order, hot, fresh, and unbelievably appetizing. The buffalo fries are amazing. The chips are fantastic as well! The portions are HUGE! I liked it so much I came back one more time before I leave tomorrow. Also, they have many different types of beer on draft. Truly a unique restaurant with HUGE potential. Keep it up JL Beers, I’ll be back next year!
My husband & I love this place. The burgers are outstanding! My husband doesn’t drink, but craves these burgers. The fries are OK, but get the chips. You’ll be happy you did, & pair them up with the beer cheese dip. The only place in town to have Woodchuck Cider on tap, too.
Simplicity at its best. I won’t waste your time with a lot of words. Burgers and fries with a imaginative flair. If you like beer (and why wouldn’t you) you have a selection from the basic offerings to tastes from around the world. Great food, great beer, great service. Just wish I had one closer to home.
