Best pizza I have had in MY LIFE!. Before living in Athens, I traveled to easily 100 different cities and small towns. I’ve been from Seattle to Chicago, Arizona to Boston, Austin to New York. I’m pizzas biggest fan, and every place I travel I look it. I look for that one pizza whose crust is fluffy but not doughy, the cheese is melted but not greasy, and most importantly that the toppings are fresh. I lived in Athens for a year back in 2009, and after I left I had a terrible feeling that I’ll never find a better pizza place. So far, I haven’t. Avalanche, whatever you’re doing, keep doing it because it is fantastic stuff. I live in Charleston, SC at the moment and comparatively, the pizza here is for the birds.
My husband and I come to Athens frequently because of grad schoolAnd we recently found this interesting place to eat. Fresh and interesting ingredients. Lots of food for the money. The crust if the pizzas are especially good and fresh!! The sandwiches are HUGE. We will definitely eat here again

Hands down, Best pizza in Athens.. I cannot do them justice with anything I say, this is the only pizza place I will consider. I have been spoiled with their perfect pies. I love the Spelt crust and all of the fresh local ingredients. They have a mission philosophy which goes hand-in-hand with their simply divine food. They cannot be outdone in Athens when it comes to pizza. Once you try their pizza you won’t be satisfied with any other, unless you prefer that crap that the other shops dredge out of the hocking.I have been to a lot of cities, I have tried a lot of good pizza, and I can honestly say that Avalanche would be competitive in Chicago, New York, or in Cali. I personally think it was better than some of the iconic pies joints I have been to.
Loved it!. The pizzas are really tasty and there are tons of creative combinations to choose from. They’ll make a boring pepperoni pizza if that’s what you want but I hope you try one of their creations like the Ted Nugent. We love this place. Oh yeah, the prices are good too!

Compared to what?. All of the reviews are raving. Its easy to say that it is the best pizza in Athens, but sadly you really cant get good Pizza in Athens. face it, its a college town, Pizza is only going to be as good as the amount of money students are willing to pay. The market determines the winner. Would you pay a couple of more dollars for Pizza made with the correct flour, (not plain flour) a respectable sauce and the real deal cheese and made with the right portions? I would. Perhaps the owner should spend some time in New York to see how its done.
