So Very Bad. We just had both the WORST meal we have ever had in Athens and the most expensive one at Cutler’s, the restaurant in the OU Inn. My steak was inedible because, although there was nothing on the menu about bell peppers (which I hate), it was served on a bed of them and clearly sat under a warming light while my husband’s more well done steak cooked, so that the steak tasted of nothing but peppers. Maybe most shocking of all, I left 4/5 of the steak and all the sides on my plate at the end of the meal, and the waiter never even asked if there had been a problem with the dinner. My husband ate his, mostly because we were hungry, but said it was equally bad. Also, the cocktails we ordered for before dinner arrived after the appetizers (the waiter came by to apologize FOUR TIMES for the delay before he brought them) and the salads were also kind of nasty… wilted lettuce, winter tomatoes, and far too many croutons and too much dressing. Just yuck. And I usually don’t complain about meals. I get that everyone is trying their best. But this was truly horrible and I think even the waiter knew it.
The place to stay…..and eat!. The Ohio University Inn is the absolute best place to stay when in Athens – nobody else comes close. Everything about it is excellent: the hotel, Cutler’s Restaurant and Bunches of Grapes Tavern, etc. It’s classy, clean and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Yes, everything costs a little more than the competition, but the location can’t be beat. A short walk to the Convo, Peden Stadium, Baker Center, and the Athens nightlife – which beats the hell out of the other places out on State Street. The only trouble is that the O.U. Inn books up quickly, so make your reservations well in advance.
Excellent high quality food! Outstanding service! You won’t be disappointed!!
100% Rating!! ‘Nuf Said. Cutler’s is a top of the line establishment and I’m not surprised at the high rating.
