Could have been better. I had high hopes for this restaurant. Athens could definitely use a few more authentic ethnic places. Unfortunately, after two tries, I don’t think I’ll be returning. The food is exceedingly bland. Perhaps they are trying to cater to a wider audience, one that isn’t necessarily looking for intense flavors, but in doing so, some integrity is lost. Cuban food should be all about bold flavors. Here, I wasn’t getting any of that.

Certainly NOT Cuban food/ Way Overrated/ Gimmicky. Not authentic or even close to it! This is no paladar and I do not feel like I am in Old Havana, Trinidad or on the Malecon when I eat here. I think this restaurant uses a Cuban gimmick but falls so ridiculously short of delivering true Cuban cuisine or anything within range. It’s hurtful! So the black bean dip and black bean soup are the same thing [I learned], No flavor [not seasoned- yikes!] really thick and dry shame that the restaurant passes these off a 2 distinct menu options and an insult to customers in a such a small community where word travels. Even given the local food stock limitations, Sol does not satisfy my Soul. Having a Cuban grandparents & Dad and growing up in Hialeah, FL has spoiled me and you cannot pass off what Sol serves for Cuban food it’s just not right – It’s WRONG!

Too hyped up. I was just at Sol this past weekend during Homecoming. Half of the tables were full when we got there. We sat at the bar. The food was decent enough. My complaint is that they brought our appetizer out at the same time as the entrees. This is a definite no-no in the restaurant business. An appetizer builds up your appetite for the meal. I was not impressed with the service. When we got our bill, they charged us a dollar too much for the appetizer and I pointed it out. This restaurant is way too hyped up. The people beside us at the bar also ordered an appetizer and the waitress forgot to put the order in for it. She asked if they still wanted it or wanted to just scratch it. The waitress should have offered to provide the appetizer for free and didn’t. They just scratched the appetizer. How can you forget an appetizer when half of the tables are full in your small restaurant? I won’t be going back.

Cute place… Hoping for more. Nice atmosphere but ordinary food. Chicken chimichuria was okay, Island Pork was tough, rice and beans average. Espresso was a sugary mess. Quite disappointing! The positive… Good service.

My friends and I came here for Sunday brunch and the service was mediocre from beginning to end. We arrived, were told the wait was 15 minutes, and waited 25 before finally asking again to be seated (while we sat there staring at 4 empty tables). The owner’s preteen daughter was in charge of the coffee that day and it took another 15-20 minutes for us to get our coffee. It took a while to order too and it was all very annoying. When I finally got my meal, the carne asada breakfast sandwich with plantain chips, it was bland, the bread was old, and it came with kettle chips instead of plantain chips. I wanted the plantain chips, obviously. So I told them to take it off my bill so I paid 7.50 instead of 9 for the meal. It was a waste of money and I won’t be going back to Sol.

Not authentic. Fish dip not fresh, not smoked properly, Cubans and South Floridians would never approve of this place.
