I have only picked up a dozen bagels and never eaten in so here’s my review of there bagels. They are dense. Almost to the point of seeming stale even though I know they aren’t. The savoury flavors are all good. The fruit and sweet flavors are pretty bland. The plain cream cheese is the way to go if you need to pick some up. It’s a unique place with unique bagels. Give them a try and judge for yourself.
I love John Marx. Yes hes not politically correct, and he’s made coments to me-but he’s refresghing! In a world that has gone crazy with pc its very refreshing to hear someone say things as he sees them-and as they often are-he has a lot of common sense-and the bagels are very good also, though a bit pricy
Mr. Bagel is rude and disrespectful to staff.. I stopped in Marx Bagels three times(in about 3 months) since returning to the area, to satisfy my craving for a salt bagel, only to find that Mr. Bagel has not changed in the 7 years, that I was away. He is very rude and treats his employees with no respect, in front of his customers. I have seen enough( I actually walked out the other day when in line) and will never return and will not recommend his store to others. It is a shame to treat poorly, those who actually keep your business profitable.
You just have to be prepared….. Usually great food…..but don’t expect a warm & fuzzy experience. I avoid having the owner wait on me when I can. He’s exactly as rude as the warning signs on the front door proclaim him to be. I typically LOVE the egg salad here, but the last two visits there were lots of egg shell fragments in it. GROSS. I’d mention it to John (the owner), but I’m afraid he’d ban me from the shop, lol.
Customer. The place is filthy!
Public humiliation. If you are publicly humiliated, accused wildly, using antisemitic stereotypical slurs on the microphone for all to hear, and told never to come back, you really don’t care how tasty the food might be. The owner acts erratically and unpredictably not like a cute, clownish fun guy, but like one with a severe untreated psychiatric problem. Think twice before going here, because the next time, it may be you. Though perhaps if you are a mental health professional, you may consider going to see if you can help this man, who, when lucid, can be nice and funny, and does bake good bagels.
Never again. Having a reputation for treating people rudely is no way to run a business. Have made my last visit to this restaurant after being told to scoot up to the counter or leave. Needless to say, I left.
