Ew yuck. I ordered the chili relleno and I took one bite then sent it back. I told the waitress it tasted freezer burned. Another waitress came over and insisted it was cooked fresh. They brought out another one, and again, the batter tasted like something previously frozen with freezer burn. Te breaking even had a tough texture to it. I tried this place because I a local recommendation and have to say, I wish I had fast food from Wendy’s instead if this. Awful. Salsa and chips are nothing spectacular. Beans are super runny, not refried, more like a watery bean pure consistency. Yuck.
El Zarape is a Americanized Mexican restaurant. If you are looking for authentic Mexican, this is not the place to go. It may be run by Mexicans but they have the American spin to them. True mexican food can be found in Toledo. I am a mexican and the few times I went I have been really disappointed
