Go for the food, not for the looks.. The paint’s peeling, the seats are cracked. The Formica tables are chipped. If you’re looking for a charming place to have a meal, you’re looking in the wrong place. On the other hand, the food is both authentic and very good. The menu isn’t as broad as it appears; much of it centers around a few items offered with differing contents (chicken, tofu, beef, etc). But we’ve tried a number of dishes over time, and have only once been disappointed when we strayed into the Chinese repertoire. (Forget the fried rice.) For the rest, everything we’ve eaten has been spot on. The old cliche about a mom-and-pop store literally holds true: the elderly Vietnamese gent does the cooking, and his wife handles the service. They know what they do, and that’s all that matters. So consider takeout, and if you want atmosphere, buy a recording of Vietnamese traditional music, maybe some Tiu nhc. If the atmosphere doesn’t matter, simply eat in. You will never regret the food.EDIT: Be sure you call in advance. Or you may find that the place is closed despite being within their open hours, as we discovered today.
