We tried two dishes on our first visit, and yes, we will try it again. My wife had the chicken fried chicken dinner and I had a meatloaf dinner. We shared the dishes so that we could both taste two dishes on one visit. The meatloaf was OK, better than most others I had in the area but a bit below what I expect. The chicken fried chicken was the definite winner of the two dishes. Their mashed potatoes are excellent. They mash reds with the skin on topped with homemade gravy, perhaps the best I have had in this area. For an added touchboth meals were served with hot fresh rolls. My wifeordered a salad instead of a side dish and it was really good. large and fresh. From beginning to end the service was perfect and we will be returning to try more dishes. Breakfast is served all day and I may have to try that next time. This is a comfort food restaurant with just enough variety to keep you coming back.

Wooden Barrel has been open only a few weeks and it still needs some work to bring it up to its potential. You must work hard to track down its menu online. It has no web site, but does have a crude Facebook page that promises a glimpse at its menu if you can figure out how to navigate to to it’s menu photo album. I did! The menu is a series of four low resolution image that are too blurred to read. The servers bend over backward to accommodate their guests, but the food quality is a mixed bag, depending on what you order. Some choices like breakfast foods, homemade meatloaf and pork chops are delicious, but they also serve some items that are disappointingly amateurish like breaded cutlets pre-breaded at a food service factory.I like this place and see a lot of potential for freshly prepared comfort food. So, I recommend you check it out for yourself, with the caveat, remember to choose wisely. Ask the servers and they’ll answer honestly.
