Old School. I’m a little surprised by some of the reviews. I have been to the Diamond quite a few times (30+) and have always enjoyed my experience. I like the old school feel. Note to those who have not visited…they do not take credit cards.
Terrible, pricy, overrated. There is really nothing to suggest about this place. The prices are crazy high, the food mediocre at best. The shrimp cocktail was good, large plump shrimp with nice sauce. The iceberg lettuce salad plain, served with the house garlic Italian, which was nothing but oil. No spices, no vinegar, no garlic. Very disappointing. One red onion ring, a small wedge of mealy tomato, and a slice of cucumber added to the bland iceberg lettuce. The pan fried perch was unimpressive. 6 very thin fillets on a plate, with a sprig of something green. Some of our party ordered baked potatoes, and also home fries, served family style. While good, the home fries were ordinary and unremarkable. One of our group ordered grouper, a large piece, but very overlooked. We were seated in the back dining room, which was very crowded. Those seated in the middle spent their time ducking the servers. The bill for water, (no drinks ordered) shrimp cocktail, pan fried perch, home fries, and an extra side salad was $48. There was nothing about the experience or the food that gave me any enticement to go back. It was truly one of the most disappointing meals I’ve ever paid for. This was one meal, not two.The menu choices are very old style, the menus huge and very worn/torn along the edges. No vegetable choices, no real salad, very similar to the 1970’s steak houses, with sky high prices. Don’t expect to get a steak dinner for under $40. If you have someone in your party who uses a walker, you may want to give this place a pass. The women’s restroom would be difficult to use for someone who has difficulty getting around. One final note…they do not accept credit cards. You must use cash. Almost unheard of in this 21st century. Also very inconvenient. The Diamond Grille thinks way too highly of itself.
Don’t understand the hype…. Just had my first lunch here and it was AWFUL. Being Friday, I had the Fish & Chips, mac-n-cheese, and sugar snap peas. The fryer oil wasn’t hot enough so the batter was crispy on the outside but soggy and greasy in the inside. The pea pods were frozen so they were soggy and still frozen in the middle. Every bite was just flavorless water. The mac-n-cheese [my fave dish] was not homemade or even real cheese. Just another frozen item they reheated. The best part was that the home-brewed tea didn’t taste like coffee. My friends Grouper was delicious though. The atmosphere was NOT the ‘gangster’ hangout described, it was dark, dingy and uncomfortable with scurrying servers yelling across the room to each other. More of an old man watering hole. Won’t waste my money there again.
Weekly visits. I come here weekly. The owner has one arm. They don’t take credit cards. They can’t hear you when you order drinks. The waitresses wear skirts. It’s dark. I’m gonna say it’s my favorite place. Best steak anywhere. I’ve eaten at all of the area’s (including Cleveland/Columbus) best places….And Diamond Grill has them beat. I am probably the youngest person to dine here regularly…hey if old people like it….IT HAS TO BE GOOD.
Old school charm. When you pull into the driveway, it almost looks like a slummy night club that, say, Tony Soprano might run…but, hell those guys know how make a great steak. Inside looks like something from the 40’s-50’s. I half expected to see a group of wise guys sitting in the back corner. But the steaks are delicious. The old school steakhouse menu makes for a perfect evening. Highly recommended.
What’s the big deal?. I heard so much about this place and I was not impressed at all. The place is dark and unwelcoming. I always feel if you need the dark light your hiding something. I ordered a chicken dish with i thought was backed but it was boiled. Yuck. The back room was way too cramped for my style. Will never eat their again.
This diamond is rough!!. I had the misfortune of dining here on a recent visit to Akron. I was extremely disappointed in the entire meal. The was no seasoning on any of our food. When we complained at the texture and flavor of our asparagus, we were told it was frozen! REALLY? The Steaks so bland and unseasoned, it was hard to believe. One so over, cooked it had to be returned. We should have returned them all. The entire meal was laughable, including when our server used her peppermill on our salad and covered the table and our laps as well. They should have used that peppermill in the kitchen to season something. We asked if the chef was new and we informed he was not. They need to get a new one!!!!
