Fancied up cheap Chinese. Not sure why this place is a big deal; maybe because they spent a lot on the building? Food is overpriced for what it is. Mongolian beef was not good, general taos was all bread and tiny bits of cheap reformed chicken. Eww.

We have been ordering carry out & eating at China Cottage for over 20 years. It has always been the freshest, most delicious Chinese in Dayton (and I would say better than everywhere in Cincinnati as well). Unfortunately, NO LONGER. For the past several months, every time we have ordered carry out, it has been terrible. Tonight the Beef Lo Mein had no flavor (it almost seemed like it has been boiled!!), the seaweed chicken rolls tasted fishy, and the mala green beans were bland. Such a shame to allow this fantastic restaurant to go down the tubes
The quality of the food is in a steep decline. Our last three visits resulted in meals that were either cold, just warm or tasted as if they had been reheated. This had once been one of our favorite restaurants where we have eaten countless times.
Worst Chinese ever. I got the triple spicy combo with fried rice and it comes with 3 meats and a brown Chinese sauce (which tasted like brown gravy). and the beef was horrible. The fried rice tasted like steamed rice the service was horrible and if you order a coke theirs no free refills. (Which the server will not tell you, he just gave me a bottle of coke and a glass) but this is the worst Chinese food I have ever had! I would not recommend at all.

What happened?. Went there with a friend Sunday night it was around 8 pm when hostess came over to seat us she wanted to seat us in the bar area. I asked to be seated in the dining area she would not seat us there. Bar area has TV on and is always more noisy than dining area. The people there border on being rude. I dont know if thats the way Chinese people are but I’ found them to be very unapologetic when questioned about their food. When my spring roll came out it was cold which happens regularly there. told waiter and he went back to kitchen and brought another spring roll out and this was just a cold one that had been refried as you could tell by the color which was a dark brown. I got the empress chicken which was over cooked nad tasted old. My friend couldnt eat his dish and left lit. When the waiter came to collect the bill he asked about our food and my friend told him it wasnt very good and couldnt eat it. As usual the waiter acted like nothing happened and didnt even offer to take his food off of the bill. Most of the wait staff and especially the hostess are unfriendly and they need to take a look at their chefs or kitchen staff. I’ve been coming there since they started in business and have seen their quality and consistency go down.
