Very disappointing. Slow service, ordered scallops, they were raw when served. Was told by owner, well that’s the way customers like them. Order them well done next time. Nope, won’t be a next time. Poor food, customer service, way to expensive for mediocre food. What a shame because I like to support local restaurants versus a chain. Sad truth is Red Lobster is better.

Overall our experience was decent. Try the shrimp and grits, it was excellent. The Fisherman’s platter isn’t worth what you’ll pay for it so skip that one. The broth the PEI mussels are in completely lacks flavor. Needs more acid and salt, some garlic wouldn’t hurt either. Good beer selection.

I hadnt been into Sweeney’s in quite a while, but I remember it being such a quirky little place with staff that all seemed to really enjoy each other. We always requested Oriahna (sorry if I misspelled your name!). She was so sweet and such a fabulous waiter! The drinks were always fabulous! The recent time I went in it seemed lacking the family charm and when I requested our favorite waiter I was informed coldly that she was no longer there. I hope that this place stays afloat without her!

Mostly reliable. This place has much more character than any other south Dayton eating establishment. It is decorated in a nautical theme with a ship’s sail draped from the ceiling, and fish tanks dividing the dining room. The seafood tastes fresh and entrees are prepared consistently. I like the flounder blackened and my wife likes the shrimp scampi. The best sides are the seasoned spinach, the dirty rice, and (sometimes) the gumbo. The gumbo used to be really succulent but now has a more of a simple soup flavor like they cut out some steps. The service is about 80% hit or miss. IE, 4 out of 5 times the service is excellent, but 1 out of 5 it’s the pits. Sometimes the servers can be absolutely awful, particular if they forget about you when there is a large party. We were forgotten once in the back room (behind the fish tanks) and we will not sit there again under any circumstances. They just need to be more consistent with the service.

Low key dinner. Went to Sweeney’s on a Tuesday night. Not very busy. Food was decent, but nothing to get excited about. The stuffed mushrooms appetizer was the best item I had. We had the crab cakes and grilled trout for entrees. Tasty, but nothing exceptional. Prices are higher than the $10-15 mentioned in the site details. Thought about trying the Cajun , maybe next time, but I wonder if they have any spice to it. We’ll see.

Horrible service. Be prepared to wait…a really long time. I’m just sayin’…
