B/G a.k.a. Main Street Diner. Let me start by saying something positive- the owner, waitresses and cook are very friendly and welcoming. They can make an awesome breakfast and it’s very affordable. The diner is located on a busy street corner, so for those who like to look out the window and people watch, this is the place to go. Or for those who like the diner atmosphere, you can chat with the waitress or owner and watch the cook at work or just read the newspaper at the counter in peace. You can also place carryout orders and they’ll be ready and waiting for you in about ten minutes. Now for the not so nice commentary, which I’ve earned because I’ve been a patron on and off at this place for a little over a decade. The food is just blah. They desperately need to change food suppliers. I can buy and produce the same food they can by shopping at GFS or making tuna noodle casserole from a box of Tuna Helper. I’ve found hair in my food on three different occassions in the past 2 years, and it was not from the cook. It was from the waitress who helps get the sides together. The owner did replace my food, but it still left me with a bad feeling about it (I’ve eaten at another place close by for a little over a decade and never once found hair in my food). The last straw for me however was when I picked up a cheeseburger using the carryout, took it back to my office, took a bite and noticed the cheese tasted off. I took the bun off and saw the cheap immitation american cheese unable to melt properly on the burger. I know what immitation cheese tastes like, I bought it once at Kroger by mistake. You can tell immediately it is not cheese by the taste and it’s inabililty to melt like regular cheese. I know this is just a diner, they are never going to be a Michelin star restaurant, but at the very least I expect to be served food without hair in it the first time I ordered it. I also expect to be served real food, not immitation. Don’t get me wrong, I like this place, I love the people there, I want this downtown staple to survive and be sucessful and be around in the future- they just need to buy better quality food and serve it.
