I finally made it to Campanello’s. My wife had the spaghetti and meatballs and it was uninspiring. A basic tomato sauce that lacked seasoning and meatballs that did not taste home made. Very generic and store bought tasting. I ordered the Chicken Parm and it was perfectly cooked and very moist. The chicken could have used a more seasoned breading. It was served on top of eggplant parm which was heavily breaded and overkill even though it tasted great. Inexpensive wine and super heavy poors made the evening manageable. I hate to say this, but this is a mom and pop joint for sure. An elderly couple and a friendly waiter/bus boy/ god knows what else were running the place. This is a family run place and apparently the rest of the family had something else to do. The service was very sporadic and chaotic, but seriously, three people were running a restaurant and two of them should have been at home enjoying their retirement years, They were very friendly and concerned about our experience. If you intend to go here just go with an open mind. It is almost like walking into a friends house and asking for some pasta.
Visited for the first time on a snowy Mon. nite. Only one other couple, obviously regulars in the place. The place is very small, seats about 50, and the decor is dated, very dated. The menu is about what you might expect from a family friendly, longstanding Italian restaurant, over 100 years old but the quality of the meals is exceptional! Veal marsala was fork tender and smothered in sauteed mushrooms. Beef brachioli was melt in your mouth tender, topped with red sauce and melted cheese. Entrees are served with a side of pasta with amazingly delicious red sauce and a generous tossed salad. Homemade bread, sliced thick, with butter arrives with the salads. Portions are large and prices are reasonable…veal was $20. Both the cook and our waitress, Maryanne were very friendly and welcoming. Metered street parking readily availableLooking forward to visiting again soon.
Passed this place all my life and finally decided to stop in. Totally not what I was expecting. A true dive restaurant with a great feel to it. The food was good but nothing out of this world. The food was actually more about texture for me than the taste. The manacotti was extremely soft. The meatball were so light it was like nothing I have had before. The best was the lasagna which is made of about 10 layers of paper thin pasta. Fun to cut and eat. The Alfredo was mediocre at best. Decent value for the price. If in the area I would eat here again.
This is one of our favorite places to eat. The food is all homemade and simply delicious! The Lasagna and Spaghetti with meatballs are especially good. The building is old and the atmosphere isn’t the best, however the food, the prices and the down to earth good people who work herekeeps us coming back again and again!
Valentine’s Day Disaster. Was looking forward to a nice dinner out and had not been to Campanello’s in many years. Food was very good but the service was awful. Our waiter was dressed in faded jeans and an orange goody. My mixed drink was brought to me by an underaged young girl which shocked me. Never received our soup or salad. Our waiter never once came back to our table after he took our order until he brought our check. No one asked how a dinner was. The young girls working did tell us that we would not be charged for our drinks since we had not received part of our meal. Never received the dessert that was part of the Valentine dinner. When we went to pay was offered a gift certificate and told that they were busy because of Valentine’s Day. Declined certificate and was very disappointed with our experience. Don’t feel that we are picky at all when dining out but would like our waiter to look like he had not just rolled out of bed and do expect to receive what we ordered and also expect waiter to check on us during our meal. Will not be returning which is sad because the food was not bad.
