It must have been a bad evening for the D. Burnham. Three of us wanted to celebrate a birthday and see the architecture of the new hotel/restaurant. We heard some good things and wanted to have an enjoyable quiet meal together. It didn’t end up that way. We heard the short ribs were good and oddly enough all of us chose that as our dinner, only to find out they were out of ribs (at 7pm, on a Wednesday night, and a nearly empty restaurant!) Game change! We ordered drinks and Calamari for an appetizer. The atmosphere, described as quiet, was interrupted by a rather boisterous group of six women having a great time. We had a difficult time hearing each other and scooted affectionately closer. Lip reading notwithstanding! Drinks came a while later, and the Calamari came even later, within three or more minutes of the main course. Disappointing! I chose the Branzino which I was told would be spicy. It was rather bland and tasteless. My friends had Lamb, which was good, and Scallops which were tasty but TWO few! The; server was very pleasant and tried to be helpful, but I feel the kitchen was working against her. There was no charge for the calamari since it came nearly as the main dish and we were given a nice toast of champagne to celebrate our companions birthday. Those were very nice and thoughtful gestures. Over all we found the food not worth the value and the experience left more of a bad taste for us than a pleasant night out. It was disappointing. I don’t think any of us will return. It just really wouldn’t be worth it.

  • Dining For Perfection

The decor is very nice. The service was simple but good. The lunch menu consisted of a small selection of flatbreads, salads, sandwiches and entrees, and an extensive drink menu. I always have to try poutine if it’s on the menu. The poutine here did not disappoint. The fries were simple, doused in veal demi and a cheesy bechamel. On top of that was a large portion of perfectly-cooked short rib. Melt in your mouth tender. Very different from Senate’s but very excellent. I will have to come back to try some other menu options. Good addition to this vacant stretch of 4th Street.
