Rude customer service when calling!!!!!. I called placing my order and the girl was very very short with me (not the first time either). I couldn’t tell her how I want my sandwich prepared, quick to end my call – I didn’t even get to finish my order–she just hung up!!!!!! SO RUDE!!, I get you are busy–but customer service keeps u in business..you need better people to take orders!!!
SOOOO Cincinnati!. I’ve been eating at this place for years. It’s close to where I work and I go there most of the time when I’m going out to lunch. Honestly, they make it hard to go somewhere else. The food is great with lots of options and the prices are cheap! Service is friendly with some sass and it is always quick. Sometimes I get the Carry-out which is always super fast. The Empress Chili is great and I think they’re reuben is the best in town! They also do a great home-style breakfast now that is really good!
Worst visit in 5 years. This had to be the worst visit to The Squirrel in the 5 years I’ve been going here. The egg salad sandwich had more lettuce and tomato than egg salad. Also, I asked for it on wheat toast and got one slice of wheat and one slice of white. Then there’s the dreadlock-headed waitress. I’m sorry, if that is your preference of hairstyle, then don’t be in the food service. It looks unclean and nasty. Not sure when I’ll be back.
Downsized portions. It had been a while since I ate here. A big change I noticed since the last time was the size of the food portion. They were well known for their large double decker sandwiches. That is what I ordered. The quality was good; my only complaint is they have actually started using a downsized slice of bread to make their sandwiches. I opened the box and was shocked to see a mini sandwich. It was still piled high but the actual bread it was made with is at best, 2/3 the size of a regular slice of bread. I guess they are following the big manufacturing model you see in the grocery store. Prices are the same but the portions are smaller. I was not fooled by this switch. Same price, much smaller portion. I gave them a 3 because what I did get tasted good.
Friday – lunch. Okay, the sweet tea was sour and the tuna/pasta plate had way too much pepper. My only regret is I got this order To-Go, or I would have sent it back. In summary, the prices are too high for what you get, but the employees are friendly, and the place appears clean.
Needs something. The staff here is great and they get your order out right away and they want to please, so I feel bad about saying this, but the food here just seems to lack something. It just does not have that big, can only get it downtown, authentic delicatessen taste to it. It’s basically like everything is coming out of the deli cooler at Kroger’s. It just lacks that homemade, ethnic touch.
Located around the corner and down the stairs from Huntington Bank, this locally-owned caf is a popular haunt for the bargain-hunting lunch crowd. Get there early or be prepared to wait for a table.Due to its underground location, the restaurant lacks natural light and can seem a little dark, but the quick service and bustling atmosphere brighten the bunker-like surroundings. The Red Squirrel is famous for their triple-decker sandwiches, which come piled high with ham and roast beef and a choice of cheese, egg or turkey. Their double-deckers are also meat-based, so I steered clear. There are a few veggie options available theres egg salad, which can be made as a sandwich (my girlfriend says their egg salad is one of the best in the city because they make it without a lot of unnecessary ingredients like pickle relish), two different cold cheese sandwiches topped with mayo, lettuce and tomato, a grilled cheese sandwich, and a small tossed salad. The Red Squirrel has 12 different salads, but only the egg salad and the tossed salad are vegetarian, with the latter being the sole vegan offering. On the plus side, they offer Newmans Own dressings, which is a nice change from the standard Marzetti dressings one usually finds. While the vegetarian offerings arent exactly inspiring, the prices at Red Squirrel are noteworthy. Most vegetarian sandwiches are $3.95 and come with a good-sized plate of potato chips and a pickle spear. The egg salad sandwich platter and the egg salad plate run slightly more but still clock in at under a fiver, and the tossed salad is under three bucks. Not bad.Unlike the downtown location, which is only open for lunch, the Red Squirrels suburban locations in Sharonville, Tri-County, Fairfield and Colerain are open for breakfast and dinner, and kids eat free with each paying adult. The suburban dinner menu lists one additional vegetarian item: a veggie burger.
