Dined with friends at Old Canal this evening. The place was jammed, with several large parties in evidence. Somehow, the staff found a table for our little threesome.Speaking of the staff, all were super-friendly and most accommodating. Our server was Sarah, a competent and good-humored young woman.Highly recommended: the coconut-battered onion rings: you just can’t stop yourself from having another. Even with three of us attacking the stack, the rings seemed to multiply before our eyes! The dipping sauce has a delightful tang of horseradish.We opted for two of the specials of the day, breaded shrimp (12 very large ones) with a chili-lime dipping sauce, and a pasta Alfredo with grilled chicken. Our third entree was a perfect slab of prime rib, more than any one person could finish. Old Canal’s famous hot-from-the-oven cornbread accompanied the beef.So, large portions, delicious food, great staff — what more could a diner-out ask? We’ll be making a return visit soon. Perhaps we’ll see YOU there?
I’d rate the Smokehouse a 5, but I’m always annoyed at how loud the restaurant always is. I’m assuming the noise is a result of it being smaller and ALWAYS being packed. Food is good and consistent. Service is typically good or above average. One of the few places in Chillicothe that will take a reservation, which is nice.
