Easily my new favorite in Chillicothe. The beet salad is an amazing starter. I really enjoyed the sweet and salty contrast of the dish. The crab cakes are among the best I’ve had anywhere. Very fresh tasting and generous amounts of crab meat. Be sure to save room for dessert. The carrot cake and derby pie aren’t to be missed.
My husband and I had dinner here a few nights ago. Our waitress was wonderful! Love the decor but the restaurant is loud. I wish they could do something to lessen the noise. I had a glass of wine and my husband had the Tito’s Mule. The drinks were good. We both ordered house salads, which were also good. I do not like goat cheese, so I asked for a substitution. The only other option was blue cheese (which is almost as bad as goat cheese). The salad was fine with no cheese in the end. I liked the vinaigrette but my husband said it lacked flavor. For dinner, I ordered the House Chicken and was very pleased. It was plated nicely and the chicken was cooked well. My husband ordered the crab cakes and was very disappointed. He expected lump crab with light breading. Instead it was shredded crab, made into a patty, rolled in bread crumbs and then fried. It definitely had too much breading. Overall, R Kitchen was nice and had pretty good food. It’s definitely a great alternative to all of the chain restaurants we have in Chillicothe. Next time, I’m sure if my husband steers clear of the crab cakes, I’m betting it will be a more enjoyable time!
