Ancor: Perfect spot for before Music Hall performances.. Great dinner at great location…….if you are lucky enough to get porch seating and view Washington Park, it is even better.
Deviled eggs to.die.for. …. Deviled eggs to.die.for.Crawfish beignets with disposing sauce almost made us change plans and stay for dinner! Thanks for finding an extra chair! We’ll be back!
Disappointing. As far as the food…they have nice restrooms.

Wonderful Staff & Delicious Menu. I see a few complaints on here about this place, which made me nervous about going here for a recent special occasion. I stuck with my plan, though, and was glad I did. So, I want to chime in and offer my own review. Having lived on the East Coast, I know a good seafood restaurant when I see one and this is one of the best. If you’re looking for a menu featuring deep fried, tasteless, and unadventurously prepared seafood, go to a chain restaurant because this place isn’t for you. Everything was fresh and flavorful. We were there with about ten friends for a 40th birthday party and couldn’t have asked for a better venue. What did we order?Clam chowder – Several people got this and all agreed it was delicious. I’ve had clam chowder in Maine and this rivals the best I’ve had there.Shrimp and grits – Ditto. I’ve had good shrimp and grits in the low country and, I have to say, though they were good, I prefer these. They had more heat/spiciness and they also held back on the cheese, which made for the perfect balance. The shrimp were nice and succulent, too. The waiter said it was an appetizer size, but, with the chowder, it was sufficient.Oysters – We ordered a dozen mix and match and they were all nice sized, plump, and fresh. The assortment of sides, like the fresh grated horseradish and the cocktail sauce, were all great.Whole fish – One of our friends, the guest of honor, in fact, ordered the fish of the day Thai style and absolutely loved it. He’s Jamaican, so he’s not turned off by a whole prepared fish sitting in front of him. The waiter offered to filet it, but this Jamaican just dug right into the fish. He loved the spiciness and seasonings, especially, and literally devoured almost every inch of it. We had to have the head taken away before he ate that, too. Not joking.Apps – We all shared calamari (the best and only non-rubbery type I’ve had in this region), hush puppies, and savory pickled vegetables.Crab sliders – Someone ordered this and said it was delicious; she’s had it before, though, and frequents this place often. Swears they restaurant is always consistent.Trout BLT – This got rave reviews, too. I didn’t try it, but it looked delicious. Seemed larger than a typical BLT might.Street corn – Some folks pared the shrimp and grits with the Mexican street corn and said it was great. Evidently, it went well with the depth of flavor the chowder offered.Drinks – Some people are saying the bar choices are limited. Not true, unless you’re extremely particular. They had a good selection of beers, some of which are local, a large variety of wines, and an assortment of liquors. People who ordered the menu’d cocktails also liked them.Dessert – We actually brought a birthday cake from Bonbonnerie, but the waiter, Josiah, I think, was kind enough to cut it up and serve the slices individually to our group. He even waved the plate fee. Speaking of Josiah, he was great. He was patient with a large, slow group and extremely helpful in making food choices and recommendations. There isn’t one bad thing I can say about The Anchor. The people who are complaining should either give it another try or realize that the type of seafood The Anchor serves (fresh and delicious) may not be for everyone. If you want you’re mainstay, rubbery, processed seafood like what you’d get at Red Lobster, then don’t come. More for the rest of us and with less wait time. 🙂
Fantastic. Loved the decor and music. Plain and hipster chic, fit right into OTR. I had the lobster roll. The portion was large, it wasn’t swimming in mayo, the texture was perfect. Well cooked all the way around. My boyfriend had the bouillabaisse. The broth was some of the most delicious broth I’ve ever had. It was probably a little more work than he would have liked though. It would have been nice if the lobster claw had been removed from the shell. Other than that, it was awesome. The brussel sprouts were well cooked (flash fried) with a nice lemon flavor (lemon butter maybe). It was a great place to go for a romantic evening for us before heading to the ballet. I’ve been to almost ever other OTR restaurant at this point, and this is one of my new favorites.
