Don’t pass this one up… It’s worth it.. Don’t let the appearance of this little place on Race St. deter you. This is hands-down the best and most authentic chinese food we’ve ever experienced. It’s run by the most charming Chinese couple that we have ever met, and they make you feel like you’re visiting their home for a holiday meal. The door will most likely be locked after dark, so knock and wait patiently until Mr. or Mrs. Li greets you. Everything is made to order and from scratch. I think they even make the tofu they use in their recipes themselves, and it’s simply amazing! Very old-school and charming. It’s cash-only, and a bit on the pricey side but worth every penny and more. Open for dinner only, 6-9pm, Tues thru Sat.
This is Legit. I went here a couple months back and it’s true, this place is run by an elderly Chinese couple and the restaurant itself is hardly recognizable as a place to eat – it sort of looks like someone’s apartment with dishes and stuff everywhere. So yeah it’s a total hole-in-the-wall but they’re super friendly and she knows how to cook. The food is honestly about as fresh as it gets. I believe her style is cantonese so you have to like your food very saucy and such. If you go there at night just knock and wait, they keep the door locked and the old man is kind of slow to shuffle over to the door and open it. Note, I think they only take cash and it’s kind of pricey.
Delicious!. The food at Yum Yum is delicious! Don’t let the building scare you away. It’s a small mom-and-pop store owned by a really cute older couple from China. She cooks the food to order and the food is very fresh. It’s a little pricey for Chinese food but well worth it!
