This is one of the expensive restraunts around the campus for Indian food. I am satisfied with the food. But the services seems to be a bit odd. I usually round off the bill for the tip amount and worte a $5 tip on the cheque making the bill total to $61.96. I checked my card transactions today and found that the deducted value is $66.96. This seems completely strange. Does this happen with every other person? Was I charged an extra 5 for the tip amount?

After hearing so much good about Ambar India for so long, I finally made it there yesterday, and I was mostly unimpressed. Before I get into all that, a public service announcement: in case you didn’t already know about the feud, let’s talk feud. Ambar has a neighboring Indian restaurant called Amol India. Apparently, there are family connections between the two restaurants, and not friendly ones. There was even a shooting allegedly involving the families. But I digress – how does this affect you? Ok. Amol has a much bigger, much better parking lot, and it is right inbetween the two eateries. If you park there and walk into Ambar, word is that they will have a tow truck there quickly to haul your car away. So if you are parking your car for dining at Ambar, make sure you use public parking or the tiny parking lot directly behind Ambar, accessible only by a very thin alleyway on right side of Ambar. PSO – completedThe folks inside are very friendly, but the interior is very shabby and worn down – very much in need of a full cleaning and remodeling. Its a weird look because they are also trying to dress the place up like it is fancy, with nice stemware and white tablecloths. Prices are somewhat higher than the average Northern Indian restaurant in this areaThe food? Without getting too in depth, the food was ok, but nowhere near as good as Deep India. I will however say FWIW that the rice was notably better – it included not only the usual aromatics but also some peas and some ginger, and was tasty on its own Overall — the only real advantage Ambar has over Deep is the larger dining space and small (but private/dedicated) parking lot.

Terrible Service. The service was terrible and the wait staff were extremely rude and obnoxious. I will never eat at this restaurant again.

Reasonably good indian food. This is my 3rd visit to ambar. Went in a group of 6 people. Really liked the food. I ordered Chicken Ajwain. The taste was good and had the right level of masala in it. It was not too creamy, as is the case of most indian joints. Some of my friends ordered the lamb biriyani. It was a bit spicy but tasted really good. The only disappointing thing i they used the same gravy for chicken korma and prawn . Rest everything was pretty good. Will visit again.

Great food not so awesome price. A little overpriced, in my opinion. However, this food is delicious! One of my favorites in the Gaslight area.

Bad & worst is the minimum rating we could give… Disgusting service ever!!!!!!!! On top of that they add 15% of tip by default in the bill – be aware!!!

Intro to Indian – SUCCESS!. Good friends of ours invited us to Ambar in January to try Indian food for the first time. They’d been there a few times and highly recommended it. My wife and I didn’t really know what to expect, but had wanted to try Indian for quite some time. We were very pleasantly surprised. Ambar was delicious! We ordered the vegetable samosa (deep fried pastries filled with potatoes and peas) for an appetizer – they were good, but we later decided we could probably pass on an appetizer next time and focus on a main dish and nan next time. Speaking of which, we ordered garlic nan (bread) to share and Lamb Vindaloo (at a 2 spice level – mild) and Chicken Tikka Saag (5 spice level – perfectly hot, I love spicy food). The best way to describe it was chicken and lamb in wonderfully flavorful spices. You could tell the dishes were slow-cooked and were full of flavor. Service was great and I can’t wait to go back.
