Back for the first time for dinner in about a year. I could come every week if there weren’t so many good restaurants in Cleveland. This place is awesome. I had veal ravioli tonight, it was perfect. Mom had calf livers, where else can you get those? Wife had the biggest pork chop I’d ever seen. Lunch or dinner, this place is a gem.26 Jun, 2012A+ Service. This spot is not near my home, but is near a company I do business with so I have been having business lunches here for several years. Last weekend I decided to check it out for dinner. My wife was very impressed and we’ll definitely be going back. The menu is varied with French, American and Italian dishes. The cocktail and beer menu, while not extensive is above average. The service is great. The servers, we had Barbara, are very professional and make informed recommendations. They are knowledgeable, work as a team and are not spread so thin that you are waiting for them. Bistro 185 is maybe 30 minutes from our home, and we have plenty of good choices that are much closer, but is worth the drive.
What does it take to get a decent table???. TWO times we booked reservations at Bistro 185 and when we arrived the tables were horrible. The first time was December 21, 2013 to celebrate an anniversary. Five of us arrived and were shown to the tables in the bar along the front window. All seats faced the window. We asked about the poor seating since we made reservations and were told by the hostess it was because we used Open Table. We decided to stay and make the best of it. The server said he’s make it up with his service and he did. However, we were not able to converse with one another since we were all spread out and each time the front door opened we froze. Then, IT HAPPENED AGAIN LAST NIGHT! My husband made reservations two weeks ago WITH the restaurant to celebrate my birthday and specifically asked for the dining room. When we arrived we were AGAIN seated in the bar at tables along the room divider with all seating facing the divider. The hostess said we’d have to wait ‘a very long time’ if we wanted another table. She also said there was no notation made on the reservation for the dining room. The same server we had before was standing there and said he’d make it up to us. (Must be something he regularly has to say to customers.) We spoke to the restaurant mgr who was stumbling to figure it out even though we saw empty tables in the dining room. We left the restaurant and drove searching for a place to dine. We called several places and Players on Madison in Lakewood had availability. They accomodated us immediately even though the restaurant was nearly full. We had an excellent evening! The food, service and ambience was excellent. There must be a Bistro ‘regulars club’ you have to belong to get a decent table. Doesn’t matter – we’ll never go back!
Diverse and Quality all at once. Our first visit to Bistro185 and we were happy. We had the stuffed pork chop (bacon wrapped stuffed with sausage) and the lemon chicken. Large portions of tasty food. Apps were good as well. The menu seems to change daily and barely resembles the online menu (except for apps/salads). If you have a dish or two you are planning on trying based upon their online menu, call first! Salads were fresh, tomatoes grown on the roof. Located in the old Fritz’s Tavern (from long ago), the place has a pretty good vibe and the service was excellent. Dessert looked good but no room!
Valentine Lunch at the bar. Very fast service, good lunch, but $8 margaritas are a bit stiff.
Arrived with no reservation so ate at bar. Ran into several friends who come often who raved about dinner and desserts. Good drink/beer selection and very friendly service. Beet salad was awesome and sesame tuna was fantastic. Recommend coconut cream and Oreo pie. Mushroom salad was bland. Kitchen bit slow in delivering but worth wait. Greet neighborhood joint atmosphere. Will be back.
Lobster & Clam Dinner Sept. 20. Food was very good; service was by far the worst I have seen. Could not get drinks asked three times and finally when the bill was given the waiter brought the drinks. The gall of the waiter he added the tip into the bill, pitiful. I have been to this restaurant a few times the food is good but the service continues to decline…
Really slow to get out food but worth the wait.
