MMMMMMMmmpanadas!. Delicious! And while I’m not one to lambast indian food…we’ve got enough already, Clifton. Caribe is a welcome addition. It’s delicious, affordable, fast and so friendly! I’ll write a more extensive review when I dine-in, but as it stands…we got carryout empanadas (spicy chicken and jerk chicken) and stews (black bean and beef, coconut chicken and citrus chicken). Everything had layers of flavor! Extremely delicious and not like anything else in the area! Try this! (for the impatient: I had a 10 minute pickup time!) Go! Hurry! Get there! Don’t you like delicious things?!

Nice litle find. We’ve probably been past this place a dozen times and never noticed it, so when I read the reviews and learned we were within walking distance of empanadas, we set out on a mission to find it. We were half expecting not to find it at all, and it’s somewhat obscured by the beginnings of Short Vine’s streetscape improvements, so it’s no wonder we have missed it. It’s a friendly and humble little spot with yummy empanadas, pretty tasty veggie coconut curry stews and even better black beans and rice – and super inexpensive prices.

One day I got a craving for Cuban food and found this place! I went for the first time and was really impressed! Super awesome food, the owner is really nice and will let you sample things. Definitely recommend this if your looking for an inexpensive, delicious meal! Get the coconut chicken, you won’t be disappointed!

Caribe moved to Clifton. Caribe recently moved to Clifton on short Vine and has expanded its menu. The new Cuban sandwich is amazing!

GREAT Lunch Joint!. I saw some internet rumblings that this place opened up a couple blocks from my workplace so I walked today. Having never really experienced Caribbean food, I went in with an open mind and was blown away (in a good way). I had coconut chicken stew over rice. It reminded me of a thai curry: good on the flavor. I also tried a jerk chicken empanada. The crust was flaky, the pastry was hot, and the jerk chicken was very spicy with great flavor! And both of these items were $5 together! A great carry-out lunch place! I cannot wait to try more of the offerings here!

Good place. It’s mostly stews and empanadas, but it is good. I ordered a chicken empanada and didn’t care for it so much b/c it was a bit bland and I didn’t like the crust, but I also ordered the Coconut chicken stew and the Citrus chicken stew (both served over white rice). The coconut wasn’t bad, but the citrus is where it’s at. It was filled with chicken, chickpeas, potatoes, and in a sweet and savory sauce with a bit of orange flavor in it. That was my favorite thing. All of this only cost me $6.50, and I mostly ordered so much to try different things and figured I’d eat the rest the next day. This is a small place that is just starting out, which could be part of the reason the menu is so small and why they’re only open Wed-Sat from 1130 to 800 and cash only, but I’d go back for the Citrus chicken for sure.
