Second and last time visit. Oh boy…after a wonderful visit about 18 months ago in which we had very tasty bolognese this was a most dreadful contrast. After being sat at a table that was two feet across we asked to move to a more ‘grown up’ sized table. We started with the antipasto where the meats were fine but the bread was old and stale. Our server, who seemd to be representitive of the kids now working there knew little of the food, wine and apparently service expected, and she forced a smile each she came to the table. We were recommended gnocci and one of the specials. The salads came and all we could taste was vinegar…no balance whatsoever in the dressings. The special was fine but not spectacular for the 26 dollar tag…the gnocci was dreadful…over rich with a weird after taste (almost accrid). My fiance told the server that she didn’t like the taste (BTW, it was her birthday)…and then the server sent another child over to tell us that we could select another dish as long as we paid for both the gnocci and replacement dish and stated ‘Unless this was foul, we cooked this for you’. We declined…this is no way to treat a customer and how much does it cost to replace pasta after all. Even in the darkened restaurant we could see the walls needed a lick of paint. My advice would be to save your money for another destination…the food, service and decor are not good enough for the price tag. These folks have delusions of grandeur.
Go for the pizza. Marotta’s is a gem of a find. It was recommended to me by another foodie, and I absolutely thank them for the introduction. I haven’t tried most of their items, and I always order my food to go, but their pizza is very, and I mean very good. Their best pizza (in my opinion) is the Molto Marotta; it has a thin, crispy crust, light pesto sauce, tender marinated artichoke hearts, and just great mediterranean flavor.
We like Marottas. Marotta’s is very good with ample servings.I just went to Sergio’s last night and in comparison, I thought that MArotta’s mussel appetizer had a better broth and then way larger protion and much bigger, plumper mussels. Overall a better value.
