Rich. We just left there because the server was extremely rude! We have eaten there several times and never had issues. Tonight was different. We waited 10 minutes for the server to come over. Obviously they were short staffed but please don’t take it out on the customer! We came there to have a nice dinner and whit what we had in the past. The manager, Raj was not very apologetic. So we will be telling all our friends in the Heights area to pass on Taste.

Service stinks. Food was great but the service is amateur at best. The owner was standing around drinking wine when he should have been asking guests how their meal was. I felt like they did not want our business s o I will take it elsewhere.

Terrible Service Kills This Experience. Okay, I get that this is a happening kind of place right now in Cleveland Heights, but I’ve been there twice, three months apart, and I am officially calling it quits with this restaurant. Sadly, the reason is not the food but the service, which is AWFUL. I don’t know where they get the servers, but I gotta say, the waitress we had on Saturday night (1/5/13) was TERRIBLE– completely unfocused and totally unapologetic for the insane delays we experienced, beginning with a 30-minute wait to receive our first drink order, and ending with us having to ask one of the managers to find her so that we could get our checks. Along with the service, which is the big issue here, this place is really loud– almost uncomfortably so. As I said at the beginning, this was our second visit, and the first one was just as bad (different waitress, really bad service.) We spent $100+ per couple both times. Here’s hoping the owner(s) take this review seriously.

Concern about quality. My husband and I ate at Taste this weekend. Unfortunately we both became very ill a few hours after dining there. When we discussed what happened with the manager, our concerns were not taken seriously. It’s alarming that a restaurant wouldn’t want to check the kitchen or food when a customer informs it of a real problem.

Nice meal. We were visiting my father in law, who leaves in Cleveland Heights for the holiday and decided to try Taste. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice and the service was good. We are in our late 30s/early 40s and were by far one of the youngest (if not the youngest in the restaurant). Most people were 65+ and looking quite dressed up (not that this bothered us, I am just stating something we noticed and this was also apparent to my 65+ year old father in law who commented on it with interest). For the appetizer, we ordered the rosemary pommes frites. They were ok. We’ve had a lot better at one of the restaurants we like in Ann Arbor, MI near where we live. I ordered the stuffed eggplant and it was ok, nothing spectacular. My husband and father in law ordered the duck, which they enjoyed very much. Overall, we liked but did not love Taste for the money we paid.

Pleasantly surprised. My husband and I decided to try it out because we had heard good things about it. We sat at the bar and ordered a few appetizers. We had the sauted calamari which was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious, we also had the artichokes which were very good too. We split a salad and for a salad, it was very tasty! There was a piano player, who is there every Saturday. It was a delightful experience and we can’t wait to go back!

Well done second chance success. With so many great restaurants in Cleveland, comparisons willl naturally be made, and the bar is set high. Although we still liked our experience the first time we visited Taste, it did not impress us. But this second visit was a different story, and the food was more memorable. We started with some nice Pinot Noir. The salad was fresh and nicely dressed. The fried artichoke appetizer was enjoyable, but the dipping sauce was flavorless, making it unnecessary. The thick grouper filet was almost perfectly cooked — slightly undercooked, which is better than being overcooked. The butter sauce and almonds over the fish gave it a satfyingly rich depth. The green beans on the side were firm and tasty. I highly recommend the Pescatore in red sauce. The sauce, a light mainara, had a wonderful flavor, and the fresh pasta and seafood in it was cooked perfecttly (it’s vital that pasta is perfectly cooked, or it can ruin a dish). I also recommend the chocolate tiramisu, if available. It was rich and light at the same time. However, I personally found it a bit too sweet, but that’s my taste. There were a few minor disappointments that won’t keep us from going back. One is the coffee. It was adequate, but too weak. There was careful attention to detail throughout the meaL, so why skimp on the coffee? There was no complementary bread or any other extras. As before, the service could have been quicker, but our young server seemed overwhelmed by the rush, so we cut her some slack. All of the servers were very busy. When we called the evening before to make a reservation, we were told they only had a high-top available. We told them we had to think about it. Late that night, a man called us back from the restaurant, whom I think was the owner or manager (getting our number off caller ID apparently, as we didn’t leave our name or number) and told us there was a cancellation that left a regular table open for us. We accepted their offer. However, when we arrived, they sat us at a high-top. I asked the hostess why we didn’t get a regular table, as promised, and she was not aware we were supposed to have one. It was not a big problem, just a disappointment. All we got was an apology from the hostess. As I said, these negatives were small, and the food will bring us back again.25 Oct, 2011Good food priced a bit too high, nice ambiance. Our first impression walking into the restaurant was positive. The warm colors, light brown wood chairs, rough brick wall and soft lighting were welcoming and cozy. We were greeted immediately on a Monday evening, as it was not too busy. Although we had a coupon, we decided to try the fixed-price menu of $30 for three courses instead. For some reason, we were charged for each course separately, which actually added up to $31 each, but the extra dollar wasn’t a big deal. We opted for the Mixed Greens salad and Red and Golden Beets salad to start. The croutons were good, but the greens were not much of a mix. The mound of greens in the center of the beet salad was tossed in a very tasty dressing, but it was a bit over-dressed. The sweet and crunchy glazed walnuts and yummy soft goat cheese were wonderful (though I wish there was a little more cheese). The diced yellow and red beets were set at each corner of the square plate. Service was very attentive and pleasant. It took a long time to put in our orders, and the time between courses was a bit too long, but that may have been due to computer problems the staff was scrambling to fix.Our entrees were gnocchi and roasted chicken. The properly-cooked gnocchi came in a flavorful vodka tomato cream sauce. The two small chicken breasts had a delicious crispy pine nut coating with asiago cheese. I expected there to be larger pieces of chicken, but it was plenty for me. Although the meat was not dry, it was a half-minute of cooking away from being so (which would have burned the already dark coating). The corn and bacon risotto was very good with the right texture. It was not gummy, which would be a no-no for risotto, but it was not as creamy as I had hoped. Still, everything was seasoned the right amount (which is nice after suffering oversalted food at other restaurants), and I enjoyed the whole dish. They were out of two of their five desserts, so we chose two chocolate dishes: the mousse and the cake. The mousse was rich and delicious. However, I was expecting something called mousse to be airy and smooth, yet it was dense and a little stiff. The cake was extremely moist and fudgy, and the raspberry sauce drizzled on the plate was a perfect, classic complement. We enjoyed our meal and have no real complaints. I would suggest they lower their prices, however. We have had better fixed-price meals at other places for the same price. One place in particular that outshines Taste is Washington Place Bistro in the former Baricelli Inn location. For the same price, we’d be apt to go there instead.
