I practically grew up on sandwiches from Charlie’s. The Special is my favorite. I don’t live in the area now, but anytime I’m back I stop at Charlie’s. This was a hidden gem back in the day. Now Charlie’s is like the crown jewel of Old North Dayton. As another reviewer notes, don’t forget the cabbage rolls. Some of the best you’ll ever eat.

The blarney, yippi ki yay, dalton, chicago dog and the frat are my favorites. Havent had a bad sandwich there yet!! Dont forget about the cabbage rolls either .. or the killer beer selection. The absolute worst. Very poor excuse for food. Was delivered to office at work. Mine was bad. Maybe because off holidays food was not fresh. Ham ok. Bread stale. Tomato not fresh. Macaroni Salad was disgusting. Lettuce very wilty. Just bad. There are delis in Dayton much better than this. Just bad. Thank god it was free. I would never order from there on purpose.
Fantastic find. It may look a little scary from the outside but believe me, you want to go in and check it out. The sandwiches are good and there’s room to eat in the back. Decent selection of craft/foreign beers for sale. But best of all are the German grocery items. Their selection is on par with what you’d find at Jungle Jim’s without having to drive toward Cinci.
Excellent Food. My favorite place to casually eat in Dayton. Try the Preggo sub. I’ve tried almost all their subs and like them all, but the tuna salad. It is probably good if you like a lot of dill…I just don’t. They have a craft beer selection to buy to take home as well.
