  Healthy, delicious, reasonably priced.. If you’re looking for some place to go for lunch on a weekday in Dayton, Ohio, you won’t find a better place than Evan’s Cafe. If you’re a meat and potatoes kind of person, this is not the place for you. But if you’re looking for fresh, vegetarian, made from scratch soups, some broiled fish, or quesadillas, a variety of different salads to die for, then this is definitely the place. It’s Dayton’s best kept secret, as it’s only open for lunch, and only on weekdays, and it’s in a part of town that many people avoid these days. This is a shame because frankly, if you’re looking for a healthy (nothing deep fried here), delicious lunch, you won’t find anything better at the four-star restaurants, and certainly not at the chains. The black bean soup is authentically spicy, with a capital spice–definitely not for seasoning wimps. The potato soup, however, is delicious enough to make a grown man cry tears of joy. If you like fish, and you’re feeling adventurous, try the Jerry’s salad. A combo of two different salads on the menu, it was developed with the help of a long-term customer who won’t eat anywhere else for lunch. You won’t find the Jerry’s salad on the menu, but the staff all know what it is. It’s a bit pricier than the rest of the menu, but worth every penny!
