Ribs?????. I was in the hickory last saturday. i hadn’t had the ribs in more than a year. i eat there at least twice a month and find it to be one of my favorite places to eat. so i decided to try the ribs and they were absolutely terrible. they tasted bad they were over cooked. they cant convince me that they havent changed their ribs. i have two friends who eat there regularly they say the same thing. we all eat out regularly all over this country and we all agree they have done something to their ribs! i would be remiss if i didnt also add every other item on their menu is great and the ribs wont keep me from patronizing them. it is still one of the most consistent restaurants in town.
Disappointed. Took the wife out because she was in the mood for steak. She had the New York sirloin, Queen cut, and I had the broasted chicken. The steak was very good and my chicken was very good as well. However, the iceburg lettuce in our salads was brown and wilted and mine had a very large core in it that looked to be on the verge of spoiled. I pointed it out to the server and the best I got was an offer for a new salad. After seeing the brown lettuce in my wife’s salad I was not interested in a replacement. When you are paying over $50 for a meal, the least you should expect is an edible salad. Kinda ruined the experience. In my opinion if they don’t step it up, the Hickory Bar b que will not last.
Not seeing the hype. People flock to this place but I just can’t get behind the hype. As you look over the menu the aromas from the kitchen make you think the food will be outstanding…but it’s just not. Hamburgers are ok–nothing special. Chicken is really greasy and tasteless. I like the basket of assorted bread that they always bring out and their house dressing is very good but that’s about it. Meh food.

VERY UNDERRATED RESTAURANT! GREAT FOOD. I have been going here since I was an INFANT! This place is great. Doesn’t seem like much from the outside, but after a whole-slab rib dinner with a house salad and shrimp cocktail, you will RANT and RAVE about this place. The atmosphere is casual, menu consists of steaks, ribs, chicken dinners etc. The house salad dressing is AMAZING. Overall a very very underrated restaurant in Dayton. Best of all, the menu is priced very moderately! A+
The barbecue sauce was sweet and delicious. A bit spicier would have really set it off! Regardless, my pulled-pork sandwich was phenomenal.
