Stopped for lunch today, took it to go. When I got to my office and opened it was I surprised. Curry chicken salad on toasted ciabatta! Wow! It came with a small green salad with balsamic vinaigrette. It was fantastic. I can’t wait to go back.
Dessert. All I can say is that from across the street I was intrigued by this quaint bistro setting in the middle of downtown Dayton. The people within the patio area seemed to be having a wonderful time, so I decided to cross the street. I entered into this art gallery, no wine bar, no eatery, no lounge, no bistro!?!?!? It has all of those elements and holds true to the name-Serendipity. I was greeted with a smile and ushered to sit in the spot of my choice. It was as if I had walked into an east coast establishment. The ambience was just amazing. Did I mention that the music was unpredictably just what I needed for lunch. Although I am not a wine drinker, I have told all of my circle about the vast selection of wines available at this bistro. Because my meter was ticking and I was out of quarters, I only had time for a dessert-thus my title. There were a number of options, and apparently everything was prepared in house. Well, peach cobbler it was! OMG, does my aunt work in this kitchen!?!?! Amazing! I’m planning to have dinner at this Serendipity Bistro very soon! Friendly, affordable, cool, artsy, and great cobbler!
Not for lunch. I stopped in with 2 co-workers for lunch today. We work downtown and had a one hour break, which should have been more than enough for lunch downtown. We sat on the patio, which was empty when we arrived, but filled up quickly. The server was very nice, and reported it was his third day. We were given 2 different menus, and had to ask which one was correct since there were different options. We waited over an hour for our food, and had to ask for it to be packed to go. By that time, a couple who sat on the patio after us, had after finished eating and was ordering dessert. Another trio that joined us on the patio was also well into their meal. The server was very apologetic, and stated that he informed the cook of our time constraint, and was told to tell us that we should call ahead (we had never been). We paid and were still waiting for our food when the owner came out to apologize and ask if we wanted dessert. We said no because we had to get to back to work. We went inside to get our boxed orders and she offered to comp, but once again, we had already paid. She ultimately decided to give us a gift card to come back. She gave one gift care, for $20, for the three of us. Our meal ran about $50. When we did get to eat our food, it had a nice flavor. I ordered the club sandwich, which I think I would have liked despite finding a piece of plastic in it. I think this place may be nice for after dinner drinks, or maybe some other time when there is no time constraint.
We stopped in for dessert after the food truck rally and were really disappointed. Out of three desserts only one was decent. Way too much dough in the cobbler, hardly any fruit. The crust for the cheesecake was thicker than the cheesecake if that tells you anything. The sweet potato bar was good but not good enough to make up for the other two.
