One of my favorite local restaurants! The food is always good and fresh, and we typically pick this place for a night out. I’ve had a couple of issues with customer service at the front desk, but the food is good enough to overlook it. (Seriously though, just smile and say hi. It’s not hard!)
Up to date my family and I have been to Wheat Penny a dozen (or more) times. Their food is amazing, they offer innovative cocktails, and the staff is wonderful. Our daughter loves watching them toss the pizza dough in the kitchen. From time to time they even give her some dough of her own to toss! We typically stick with pizza, however their entrees are equally appetizing! Our favorite pizzas include: Mr. White, That’s the Way Uh Huh Uh Huh (not on the menu anymore, but they’ll still make it), and Philomena. Honestly, they’re all amazing though. As for other stuff, the soup is always killer and you can’t go wrong ordering the meat balls for an appetizer. Be prepared to wait for a table in the evenings, especially Fri. and Sat. They do allow 30-min. call ahead seating which really helps. In summery, one of Dayton’s best restaurants.
Artisan cocktails, delicious food, and great service. I dined there last night with family and had a wonderful experience. We got there around 6 and there was about an hour wait so we enjoyed some delicious artisan cocktails. I had the Basil Smash, it was so refreshing and tasty! The ambiance was great, the bartenders, hosts and servers were all very friendly and attentive. For a starter we enjoyed the focaccia with ricotta, it was flavorful and rich and plenty of food to share between 3 people. I am vegetarian so I was very pleased with the variety of main course options. I chose the cauliflower steak (not something I have seen in many restaurants) and it was amazing and filling. It had been brined in veggie stock, grilled, and topped with a savory salsa. Two sides are included and I had the sauted spinach and cheesy polenta. I cleared my plate and was completely satisfied. I enjoy trying out new restaurants and I loved how Wheat Penny was unpretentious and let their inventive menu and quality of food shine. I will definitely be back!
Great Sandwiches. First time in and absolutely loved it. I had the Porchetta sandwich, my wife had one of the specialty sandwiches featuring a dark meat turkey. Both were delicious. Great atmosphere and judging from the whisky sour, their bartender knows his stuff as well. Also had the eggplant fries….excellent! Definitely going back first chance we get.
I love this place. I have never once had a bad meal here. The owner is a foodie and the food is excellent. The ingredients are top notch. The people love their jobs. Its a great place to go. Sometimes you have to wait a while but thats what happens when the food is outstanding. Some people on here complain about bad service or too expensive. I disagree. Good ingredients cost money and in dozens of visits i could say that maybe twice we had slow service but never bad service.
