Great Mediterranean cuisine at reasonable prices. The Istanbul lies on a cliff overlooking the river and offers some amazing views not to be had anywhere else. Tried the falafel and calamari as starters. The calamari was well-seasoned but could’ve been a bit spicier. The falafel was just the right amount of spicy and not too burnt so was great. We tried the lamb and chicken kebabs as well – they don’t give it to you on the stick here so that’s a convenience. The meat was quite well done, so fans of eating rarer meat might need to specifically ask for it.
Cafe Istanbul in Dublin, Ohio is built on a cliff overlooking the river. The building is beautiful with much nice stonework, the tables are set with white table cloths and red cloth napkins, footed goblets for water and lit by large chandlers. The open fireplace dividing dining areas has interesting copper work. The decor is very pleasing. We were seated by the large windows. Our waitress was charming. It took us some time to order since our friend was new to Turkish food. Once we ordered the warm bread arrived with the dipping sauce of, I think, olive oil, sun dried tomato, rosemary and sumac…beware of not eating too much of this wonderful starter. I had the lunch special. I chose the tabouli salad, Adana kabob that comes with steamed green beans, celery and carrot and a perfectly seasoned rice, for dessert there was a custard with almonds. We had American coffee with dessert that was served in a cup with a saucer. The cream had its own little pitcher. The coffee refill came in a large ceramic pot. Some of the time we listened to Middle Eastern music but due to the strange mix we were jolted back to Ohio from time to time. I would give them a 5.0 had our server known to clear our used dishes before she brought dessert. We finished our dessert and coffee with soiled dinner and salad plates still on the table.
A Turkish delight with a gorgeous view. A real treat every time bussiness brings us to Columbus from Los Angeles – a real discovery with very good food, nice service and awesome view of the river – easy access from Dublin’s hotels – a very good value for a very good dinner
