Father’s Day Dinner. Our first visit to J.Liu was on Father’s Day. Even though I drive past the restaurant practically every day, I’d never eaten there. All of the family enjoyed their meals, quite tasty. My risotto with scallops was delicious as was my husband’s pasta diavolo. Good food!

Good Service!. We were greeted warmly and taken well care of by our hostess. The wine she selected for me to have with my meal was perfect. My husband had Sichuan shrimp and rice and cleaned his plate. I had the chicken penne which had some great flavors and textures, such as the mushrooms and beans, but the chicken was quite dry. Their bread and oil that came out were good, as well. It was a nice evening, and while the food wasn’t superb, it was a nice time for a date night/trying a new restaurant.

Overrated. I’ve been here 3 times and each time it’s the same thing. Crowded, bad service, slightly below average food and way over priced. It does appear to be popular with the local community so I can only guess that if they don’t know you they don’t serve your because I fail to see why anyone would wait for a table there. I had the crab cake sandwich and its was average at best. With so many options in Dublin and have no idea why this place is still open.

Bar for locals only. I’ve eaten here numerous time over the past years. The bar area is for locals only. If they don’t know you, they don’t wait on you. I witnessed a traveler wait 45 minutes for a menu then just walked out.Food used to be great. Lately it’s been inconsistent. Quality varies, service varies (you can tell the food has been waiting a while before being served). The service in the bar is also slipping. You would swear the bartenders have vision problems as they can’t see an empty glass. If your a gambler, take a chance. Maybe you will get good food, maybe you won’t.

Good Walleye Dish. Try the Walleye! Very unusual with watermelon and corn salsa but it works and tastes great.

AMAZING. I have been to J. Liu several times for both dinner and lunch. I have to say that we have yet to have a bad experience, and even with ordering something different every time, we are yet to be disappointed in the food we get. Our top picks: Lobster Bisque – might be the best I have ever had Calamari – Not what you would expect at all. It’s larger thick strips and sounded like it would be rubbery and gross. Someone who was with us insisted we try it and it’s melt in your mouth amazing. Pork Shank – Just falls apart when you touch it. So tender and amazingly delicious. When we go here with my husband’s side of the family, it’s a rule that someone has to order this. Mala green beans – bursting with flavor… makes my mouth water thinking about it. The place is small, but we have never been there when it was so busy we couldn’t get a table. If we are going at prime dinner time we make sure to make a reservation. Parking can be a challenge, but somehow we have always managed to get lucky and park in their small parking lot. I would recommend a drive through the parking lot before just assuming you have to park in the fields of cars behind the restaurant. At dinner time this place is pricey, but for lunch it is very reasonable. The decor is great. I love the modern/asian style! I feel right at home in this place and the service is always amazing. We brought in a cake for my husband’s birthday once and they insisted that they take the cake and serve it for us. There was no charge for this, and it was so nice to have this all done. They cut very large pieces, and when there were several of us that had leftovers, they even brought us to go boxes for the last of the cake on our plates. All of this free of charge? Wonderful!
