I went there once and got a po boy. not ever having one, i didn’t know what to expect. it tasted good, but i am not a fan of fried food and mayonaise in general. so, when i go back, i will order something else.
This place is great! The food is wonderful, and this review comes from someone who lived in New Orleans for years and who’s married to a very picky Louisianan. The poboys are fantastic, in particular, and the owners are so friendly and kind and appear to remember the names of all of their customers!
You can’t miss this one!!! This is legitimate Cajun food! I am from New Orleans and have been searching for good Cajun food since we moved here 6 years ago. Everything we ordered was amazing!!
After the Museum. Waking up at 9am, having breakfast at 10am, and walk around the museum for 5 hours with some acquaintances (I really get into the art, I try to smell it and see if I can smell the time period it was in. Sure, it probably smells more like museum and other pieces of art and such, but somewhere in all the smells it has collected there is its past and origin.) and almost giving up when the gps sent us about a block over. I got the etouffee (16$) and some sweet potato casserole(4$) and everyone else got po-boys and fries. I lived in Galveston, Tx for 2 years and while it is not nnaaaliiinnnss, it had a lot of cajun flavor. My etouffee was was right on and the portion was heavy handed, in this situation it is a good thing. The sweet potato casserole was a tiny portion, only when reflected that you paid 4$ for it, buuuuuutttt it was sweet, savory, with pecans in it and just had an awesome cinnamony notes in there. Etouffee also came with a toasted and buttered bread that is used to mop up the sauce that makes the dish one that will leave the plate clean. My girl got a shrimp po boy and fries with some sweet hot sauce. A honey based with crushed red pepper, season all i think, and maybe some apple cider vinegar. I am not sure of the ingredients, but i am sure that they should call it CraCk sauce when put on top those fries. The whole table got sweet tea and almost everyone said it was too strong, but thats how we drink it in the south. If you cut it with some ice water it gets a little smoother. I could not leave any food on my plate and almost fell asleep on the table. You could tell they have regulars and also a bar. The staff was friendly but not as friendly as the chef that asked how we liked it, and we liked it real good. You might be able to get 3-4 meals at a fast food joint with the amount of money that you will spend here but this is way better that any place like that. Skip fast food for a week and treat yourself to some Kick-Ass Cajun. I am pretty frugal and do not like to spend 20$ on lunch, but dayum this food will have me coming back and I suggest that if you want to experience the taste and smells that give the south that je ne se qua then ill see you at Mardi Gras on Madison.
I like New Orleans and was really looking forward to this place. The atmosphere is great. Service was alright. Food was average at best. I got the blackened chicken. It was good. Full of lettuce onions and peppers and my order was messed up twice. My girlfriend got the chicken poboy, came out wrong and she had to send it back. When she sid receive the sandwich it tasted like nothing more than a frozen chicken tender sandwich. Overall disappointed.
Tried this place cause the reviews and rating were so good. I was disappointed. Great ambiance, great service, the shrimp (po’boy) was good and freshly fried, the fries were good. The bread was toasted which made the sandwich too hard and crunchy. Also, the hoagie was about 5-6inches which I didn’t expect from the pictures. The hoagie also was full of lettuce, along with a not quite as much shrimp as I had anticipated. My gf got the chicken po’boy, the chicken strips were burnt; definitely fried too long. All this for $10 a po’boy, for me and my average college student expendable funds, not worth the money. Not bashing the restaurant, just from a reasonable value standpoint, I wouldn’t go there. I’d go to Popeyes for a better po’boy (which I had the night before) and go to pen station for a better sandwich for $10. But I can’t fail to mention the spicy honey glaze is extremely good. They have something good with that.
Very nice surprise. Having made NOLA my second home, I was looking forward to trying MGoM. Upon entering mid-afternoon on a Saturday there was a good crowd. The music was authentic, the decorations were too, and the placed smelled wonderful – there was Cajun in the air. Service was friendly, and fair paced. The portions for my wife & I were huge and incredibly delicious.Good selection of Abita beer and even Zapp’s chips (which might be overkill – but it made me laugh)You gotta try this for yourself.
